Well to play devil's advocate here for a second, HRT and gender reassignment surgery is actually a pretty smart and rational solution to the issue of a growing and obsolete group of predominantly male workers in the advanced economies. Personally, I think it's likely that gender dysphoria exists and that medically transitioning may bring relief to people who suffer from it. I keep an open mind about it. Much like ECT, it's really extreme but it may be a valid treatment option.

Unfortunately, that view is now transphobic. It's not gender dysphoria or gender identification disorder anymore, it's "feelings of gender variance." And it's not "treated" by HRT or SRS, because "treatment" implies that it's wrong. Now it's simply "endorsed" by HRT or SRS.

If some magic mystery drug was developed that instantly cured gender dysphoria, making you feel absolutely comfortable as your birth gender, troons would call it conversion therapy. Or genocide.

The one trans womyn I am personally aquainted with that is not a walking ball of suicide thoughts has this exact view of the situation: "I have a problem, and after weighing the options, this (extreme) treatment method was the least bad out of the alternatives". Frankly, if you approach it like that, you stand a good chance of being okay with your decision, because you are actually making an informed decision.

There is a reason for gatekeeping and that is that people making an irrevocable decision need to know what the drawbacks as well as benefits are, not be lied to because doctors are afraid of being shouted down by troons for providing accurate medical information.

It seems so absolutely obvious that people are more likely to make a decision they're satisfied with after the fact when presented with objective medical information, including potential negatives, than when they're sold a fairy tale where everything is perfect all the time, just sign the dotted line and get chopping.

This is legitimately a huge problem when it comes to parents deciding whether or not to transition their kids, because trans advocacy groups overstate the positive benefits of transitioning and gloss over all of the health complications that can come from it. Then they'll pretty much imply that you're a terrible parent and your child will commit suicide if you don't put them on puberty blockers.

It's easy to see how parents can simply fall in to this shit when all the information they're provided with is ridiculously biased.
