I dunno, Noelle Stevenson was also made fun of and she still got a big job...

To be fair, while Noelle does have a fair share of hecklers making fun of her bootlegged Kate Beaton/Adventure Time art and her cringey hottakes that give her away as a total know-nothing poser, she never did anything to earn the true ire of SJW/Tumblrinas the way Rory has. The closest Noelle ever got was getting collateral criticism for starting The Hawkeye Initiative, but even then she wasn’t the one running the blog and she mostly ignored it.

I’m not sure this whole debacle or her reputation necessarily means Rory can never get her foot in the door - there’s quite a few douchebags running around the industry after all - but it’s kinda depends on how well she’s liked by her peers right now and how well she can maintain that relationship. Because even if the art controversy doesn’t sink her, being her usual cunty self to peers and superiors wil.

I hope her radio silence means that she's taken some of the criticism to heart and used it to become a better person. She fucked up big time in a very public way. It's not impossible for people to privately make amends, change, and leave all that shit behind them.

This whole thread has basically become an obituary. I feel almost lucky to have seen Rory fall from grace in real time.

It’s easy to forget that she used to be genuinely popular on tumblr, but she used to get 20k-50k reposts on average for her art. She was big by tumblr standards, and a lot of people were tangentially familiar with her. Now she’s a site-wide joke.

I’m also sad we never got an RCDart Loki or Daredevil, because that would’ve been hilarious.

Somehow it's even worse than the last one.
She did the very bare minimum to make these condiments and soda look like anything at all, everything just falls straight down with no inertia... what is that, like 2 frames at best of the tartar sauce, cheese, etc. hanging in the air? People who have never animated in their life could have done this.

This is an awesome display how little RC knows the basics of her craft. What a waste of an opportunity to duck her head and focus on learning more and really hammering in the things that make animation so special.

But also not a surprise that, once there's no place for bimbo lips and (even uglier) SU rip offs, Rory has very little to show.

Isn’t she in her second year at CalArts? And THIS is the shit she produces?! If I were her I’d be embarrassed. She’s not applying any of the animation techniques she’s supposed to have learned by now, and the whole thing looks lazy and uninspired.

If it’s another of those short assignments they’re given at CalArts, I bet most if not all of her classmates handed in much better works.

I feel like Rory might be trying to play it safe or just be uninspired after everything that went down. She's the type to become severely depressed when handed genuine constructive criticism, so I imagine actually being made a meme for being so bad probably stomped a lot of her desire to create anything right out of her.

She's another one like Luna and Rabbie that strikes me as the type that wants to produce art because it's 'easy' & she's too good for a regular job, not because she feels sincere passion for what she's doing. It's clear there's just... no intent or passion behind this, which is a shame, because I think a food study would have included some interesting animation and helped her rework her style in a subtle way, if it had been taken seriously.

I was interested in seeing what Rory was up to, and I’m just... incredibly disappointed. My expectations weren’t that high, and I’m still disappointed.

Rory is clearly refusing to go outside her comfort zone. Like did she even LOOK to see what those things look like IRL? The idea is simple, yeah, but it would at least be passable with more detail.

This proves that she’s doing fuck all at her time in CalArt, and it’s just sad. I was hoping that she would get her shit together.

Damn the grandma's story was super cute yet simply animated. It looks like the efforts were made more on the background, good idea when you still work on your animation skills.
