Has Brad even claimed to be anything other than a game developer who works on making new games based on things he liked because he enjoys vidya? This feels like Jake has sour grapes he didn't think of this strategy.

I'm sure you know this, but prior to GG, Brad had issues with gaming journalists almost ruining his life (see here), this led him to be vocally pro-GG and firmly in the crosshairs of Zoe Quinn/CON.

Yeah I remember that, but I'm not familiar enough with his work to know how innocent he is of spergy shit comparative to other vocal GG supporters (think Milo Y, who actually was a huge scammer like anti-GG claimed or Sargon, who is legitimately one of the stupidest motherfuckers ever)

I’m still stunned about the “Hello world” thing. If it isn’t just Jake’s regular overblowing of how pathetic he is to gain pity points (which I suspect it is), how can someone be that incompetent? You know, over the Christmas/New Year holiday I took a trip up to New England and actually made a little detour to check out Niantic on the way. And let me tell you, it's depressing when you can't get laid in the rape capital of the universe
Seriously though, I went to the Book Barn (the "combination bookstore/petting zoo" he mentioned) and in addition to having some very cute and very mellow cats, they had rainbow stickers and pro-LGBT flyers all over, and one of the buildings had some big rainbow art installation in its driveway. Believe it or not, the place hasn't been burned down in a pogrom!
Jake should be trying to get a job there part-time, he could be shelving books and feeding cats in a queer-friendly environment, and getting paid for it.
Despite what another local said on this thread, it does seem like a very small town though, so I see why Jake complains about "being in the middle of nowhere". It seems like a bad place to be Too Goddamned Autistic To Drive.
Didn't try to find Jake's house though because there'd really be nothing to see (especially during daylight hours) and I forgot my drill for making tiny holes in his wall.

I think working in a bookshop would be a pretty good job for Jake. If he smartened up a bit, like maybe got a pair of slacks, a button-down shirt, a sweater or a tweed jacket, he'd fit right in. In theory, I guess... but I think you may be over-rating Jake's abilities in several areas.
Most bookstores:
1. Open before 2PM in the afternoon.
2. Don't want their employees to smell funny and like it if they change their clothes regularly.
3. Have computer systems with inventory and ordering apps which would make the sad gnome cry, as they are not identical to the Twitter interface.
4. Don't want their employees ranting at customers in 280 character bursts about failed games, Gamergate, JESSIE!/RANDI!/CHELSAY!, "online transphobia", etc.
"Do you have any books about Renee Richards?" "No, go away, you Nazi TERF, why would you want to read about her?"
"Uh, how about some Tony Hillerman then?" "Shhh, I'm finishing a tweet about online abuse, can't you see that?"
5. Don't offer rides to their employees.
6. Don't want their employees spending their entire shift on Twitter. Look at what Becca does... but at least, she can hide it easier at her desk job, trying to work retail with constant customer interaction is a totally different ballgame.

And failing that, I did spot several other possible employers for high school graduates in town. There's a McDonald's, a smattering of local restaurants, and at least two supermarkets: one "foodie"-looking place and one gigantic Stop & Shop. Not sure which one was the place that fired his gnome ass back in the day XD But still, it's not a complete wasteland out there.
Oh, and as for the whole "can't drive" issue, I'm sure his mom would move heaven and earth to give him rides or get him rides somehow if it meant reintegrating him into society.
