Now you got me curious...I know the Vocaloid fandom has all kind of shit that goes on with it, from driving away translators who actually do the work for free to creating art like this.

It's nothing new obviously and while I'm a bit lenient with this type of art because you can interpret the Vocaloids however you want (that is the intended purpose of them), at some point I have to ask where you draw the line?

How far can you call something Hatsune Miku before it's clear that it's not the case anymore? Some of these I didn't even recognize until I was told it, but I'm still under the impression that it's supposed to be that way. Really this isn't even to be crappy about it, but some of these characterizations would work better as OCs.

If it's not horrendously ugly or steeped in Tumblr, I'm cool with it. As long as they're recognizable, like an actor dressing for a different role or a cartoon being drawn in a different style.

But to your point I agree. In the Western fandom it's super common to see individuals become popular for drawing a certain Vocaloid, but ironically their interpretation looks nothing like the character at all.

Being racist and called an idiot for changing the race/skin tone of Japanese characters for "diversity" isn't trauma. Making a character that's fully a race that isn't white into a mixed one makes no sense.

A couple months ago I read a fanfiction on AO3 where the reader fucks Michael. The author of the fic wrote in the comments that he was trans and that he killed Judith Myers because of his dysphoria or something like that. I looked but I couldn't find the fanfiction again, but maybe that's a good thing.

I don't see why not. Tove Janesson was a lesbian and Finland is one of the most LGBT-Friendly countries in the world. They have a gay man in parliament who also ran for president twice in a row. The only real issue that in order to change your gender marker you have to be infertile, which in the end isn't all that horrible unless you're really that desperate to be stealth.

Those are good points, but I'm curious to know if the artist thought of it like that or if they were just injecting their politics into some random show they liked like every other artist featured on this thread.
