Political comics stink too, they all have the same problem where either the "punchline" is supposed to be an outrageous belief that you find funny because it's the opposite of theirs or the person is a strawman/over exaggeration of a type of person.

Agreed. Conservatives were acting autistic during Obama's reign as president and could be argued to be a lesser version of the TDS idiots shown in this thread.
I'm pretty sure it was especially with the people screaming about "WE NEED A REAL CONSERVATIVE TO BEAT OBAMA!" and how Obama was literally the anti christ.
All the Obama outrage was generally contained in a few places like Fox news, Breitbart, /pol/, storm front, y'know the usual suspects. Even then the majority of Obama hate was "where's the birth certificate?!" and racist plays on his name while every other major news outlet and blog was too busy gargling his nuts because of his historic making skin color.
Almost every president has been called the antichrist and that they are "going to destroy democracy as we know it" and "marital law" and "they're going to take -insert hot button issue- rights away from us!". It's a tale as old as politics and one that is so tired and worn out that it makes me wish some of these doomsday prophecies would come true just so all the pants shitting terror these people apparently live in 24/7 would be justified.
The majority of media wasn't on the side of ODS in regards to conspiracies like Obama's birth certificate or him being a secret Al-Qaeda member but even that was mostly a small thing, with only some news outlets at best holding a neutral view on that kind of bullshit (but news outlets and Obama supporters could be far worse with how they shut down any moderately negative critique aimed at Obama by labeling it hate speech or racism, and it really got worse with his second term) but such conspiracies were mostly dismissed by the majority of people and the worst of it was contained on sites like stormfront and esoteric aryan viking forums, unlike now where the vast majority of media and people across the western world from the left, right and center views are all screeching about Trump being some kind of racist devil in mortal form while labeling anyone "right", "right of center" or even "right of Bernie" as the scum of society (even if there are people on the right who agree with said accusers about Trump) and anyone with individual views or held views from both sides being considered just as bad for voting third party or not voting at all. Even Bush Derangement Syndrome was never as bad as TDS (although it was bigger than ODS) but at least BDS was more justifiable in regards to the fuck up that was the Iraq War, but still "too in your face" since you had people also screaming about Bush irl and throughout media, with some even going too far with their hate and bitching.
The media never had much subtlety in their political leanings, but if there was any subtlety, the leftward media has thrown that right out the window and brought out the worst extremist traits in everyone as a result. A day doesn't go by without some TDS or political bitching going on irl or on TV for me, and even modern entertainment doesn't offer much escape since its riddled with it too, and they keep rebooting/resurrecting old media like X-Files just to make political commentary on the matter.
