I think this is because it's exactly these sorts of people who will screech their gender/sex/whatever identity to the world. A lot of normal trans people don't advertise their identity because, y'know, they want to be a normal person of the desired sex. This and the internet's ability to bring out one's inner fuckwad likely skews the perceived demographic a bit.
It triggers alarms in some deep seated neurology meant for identifying if something is a mate or not. Brain doesn't like things fucking with its pattern recognition or narrative generating software. Its the uncanny valley for sex, and those unpleasant feelings get projected to other external explanations (because the brain wants a narrative that makes sense so very badly). Troons are very good at providing a big heaping kernel of truth for an obsession for that type of person to build on.

This was said so I was confused as if you meant you never have had an uncanny valley response or if you had just never had one to trans people.
No ones subconscious works on such an abstract and logical basis. Evolution favors quick solutions. That means stereotyping and ad hoc explanations.
My friend described it well as being like driving in traffic. If you see a car signal left you know what to do. Right you know what to do. If the car in front of you starts signaling in a vague, right-ish lefty direction it's alarming. You don't want to hurt the other driver and you don't want to get hurt but you don't know exactly what to do. The conclusion is usually, just signal in a way I understand.
