This story absolutely breaks my heart and everyone involved deserves some love and therapy. The kid must not have any clue what to think in this situation, because the media is telling her one thing, society is telling her another thing, but most of all she's lost the man she thought she knew: her father. The wife may have had some inkling that her partner was like this, but she still must be completely blindsided and feel betrayed. The transgender person, assuming they aren't a sociopath, is hurting terribly too. Gender dysphoria is very painful to endure, and if s/he's going through it at the same time as losing their daughter and being so lonesome, then her/his suffering must be unbearable. While it's not my place to judge, who would marry a woman, make children and wait until their child is 14 years old to come out as transgender and transition? The lack of foresight in this situation is truly, truly preposterous.

I've read Mr. Blanchard's research and while it is very informative and eye-opening, I don't believe the reality is so black and white. Of course, outliers don't disprove the general, and he seems to have hit the nail on the head in his categorizations, but it seems there are some older transgender people who truly do suffer from harrowing dysphoria.
