Let's Sperg Revolution 60: Game of the Year Contender

The character "minuete" looks really weird. I mean when his "insectoid appearance" kicks in and those weird heart shaped antennas erect (hue hue). I don't mean "oh shes some sort of cool bug-girl" more like "what the fuck is sticking out of her head and what purpose are those antennas for?". In my mind the sound effect for the transformation is something like this:

I don't know. Maybe its just my autistic mind imagining 10cm long antennas rising from scull is sort of weird.

Part 8 - We Hurt The Ones We Love

Gameplay: Okay here is the stone cold facts: I was buzzed when I played this part and I've gotten kinda blitzed by now [if you want to have fun figure out which parts of this video were a mad dash for the fridge or the health pipe]. But at the 1 minute mark in this video I get hit by a stick that was lobbed my way by a geishabot. That attack has not shown up before or since, but all of a sudden my character takes DPS until I'm dead, and I have no idea why. I'm assuming it's a glitch but who even knows.

If there was some point to this bridge puzzle I missed by all means call my ass out. But I didn't see shit, other than just pushing buttons at random until the bridge lowered. So maybe the dungeons biggest puzzle was "randomly guessing". This sentence is also going to be disguised as a normal comment because there's like 2 minutes of Amelia running around and "arming defenses" that never trigger. I want you all to suffer <3.


Story: Holy shit, Chessboard has corrupted [Unknown] and she is gonna fuckin' kill Holiday!!!! AND MINUETE HAS GONE ROGUE TOO OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDD. The AI Bitches beat up Amelia and she is presumably kidnapped, Holiday is left for dead, QTEs don't effect the outcome, I don't know what anyone could really expect this point, unless they were expecting "no game padding by having pointless scenes of a limping super spy". If that was on their mind they need to seek help immediately.

Maybe you made a crap game that no one could play, but instead you decided to heed your sexist instincts and place all the fault with the female testers.

It's a pretty blatant theft given how well known the scene is. I am willing to bet about 90% of X-Men fans who read comics (I realize there are probably movie or TV-only fans) are aware of the scene and most have probably read if nothing else the page I posted. It's pretty much the defining character moment for Quicksilver.

It's not her claims of misogyny, but her blindness to how she's perpetuating said misogyny. I haven't followed Wu's antics that much (my main exposure to her is through a couple of articles she wrote about receiving death threats/being discriminated against in the industry) but now I understand why she's a lolcow.

There's the possibility in doing this review that we've given Revolution 60 more thought than even the creators of the game. There's so much to dissect, and ample opportunity to describe what went completely wrong, it's kind of a decent case study for how NOT to make an engaging game.

But how could it have been made better? All this Metal Gear Revengence talk makes me think if she made this game an over the top action game, with Infinity Blade style (only not delayed) swipe combat instead of the mega man style grid, this could be a competent parody of bloated space operas. Since it's utilizing the Unreal Engine, she could have technically made each battle a static environment to cut down on resource usage.

Hell, since everyone uses guns and hand-to-hand is reserved for cutscenes only, she could have made this an on-rails lightgun game with some sort of space-esque super moves you could still level up.

But as Young Master McIntosh so eloquently put it:

Spoiler: Parts 9 and 10 will be up tonight and Jaimas? You might be getting an answer to your most pressing question - what does the title mean?!

I've added a poll but kept it vague. Which character? What's happening! Well this thread has been enlightening for me for people who do reviews and lets plays. Everything takes more time than I had anticipated which isn't bad, it's just, you know, strange! Because of that I have Part 9 finished but not posted, and it is left on a chilling cliff hanger.

I would hope none of you are emotionally invested enough in this game and it's characters that you would need to know who is going to be killed. I'd also like to point out I already tried killing her and the result was more dialog and then I was taken back to the same choice so there's a really good chance no matter what you pick, Revolution 60 will go whatever way it wanted in the first place.

This game isn't sold under the Giant SpaceKat Games name - Brianna W. Wu has taken inspiration from American McGee and slapped her name all over their product pages, which says to me she is also writing the sassy and fun patch notes. Apparently they updated R60 to include #Gamergate being defeated so I don't even know why that is still going on. Can't all these mysoginerds read the damn update?!
