We don't know. We know very little information about him at all. The few people who knew him who've been interviewed describe him as unexceptional and hard working.

Perhaps something happened after he left Grafton and started travelling. I expect we'll only ever know exactly what he wants us to know - nothing more and nothing less.

Possibly? I still somewhat suspect he didn't even hate Muslims and was simply an edgelord who wanted to go out in the edgiest way humanly possible. I do think he may have been less radicalized than he made it seem like, what with his memeing while in captivity. I'm starting to lean towards him actually be the attention seeking type of shooter using as many memes and buzzwords as possible to get attention, but that's up to the courts to decide. That said, I'm not sure I'm ready to believe /pol/'s dumbass false flag theories unless it comes out he was in contact with ISIS or something.
