J.K. Rowling needs to stop messing with Harry Potter - A general STFU J.K. Rowling MegaThread <3

She is just writing her own fan fiction at this point. What kind of audience is she aiming for? Very few people were ever interested in Dumbledore's sexual orientation, even less his sex life.

Also, sex was never brought up in the original book series, even in the latter books when the main characters were older and their hormones should be in uproar (I think they mentioned make outs at best). So for her to suddenly bring up intense sexual relationships in relation to the franchise is just weird.

Honestly I had always assumed dumbledore was gay and just never cared. It was more or less reinforced for me with the 7th books chapter involving dumbledore and grindalwald's relationship. So when she came out and announced that, I honestly did not care. I only began caring when hermione was retcon to being black. Was an issue since the retconning was an obvious attempt to appease an audience and to stay relevant post movies. From there it just seems to get worse.

They won't scrutinize Harry Potter becuase if the do, they won't be able to ham-fistedly compare Trump to Voldemort.

If Donald Trump = Voldemort, does that mean Hillary Clinton = Umbridge?

My hot take is what she is doing is just as stupid as the "x character is gay and trans I don't make the rules uwu" headcanons people slap on characters, but a lot of the SJWs calling her out don't realize they often participate in similar behaviors.

That being said I don't know how she doesn't realize nobody cares and they are all in fact actively mocking her for posting this shit.

I've grew up with the books and I think that the SJW stuff was kind on inevitable, since Herminone was an anti-slavery advocate in one of the earlier books and the House Elves were against that. There's also the multiethnic kids that were in the movies. Luna could pass for promoting mentally diversity if some of the stuff she does wasn't tied to being useful and her mom dying in front of her. And who could forget the racism?

When I was a kid and finished book 7 it was an obvious implication that Dumbledore was gay. It wasn’t rocket science. But I guess some people just have to read and see as raw sex scene shoehorned in.

Still doesn’t excuse Rowling’s desperate attempts to make her series still relevant in 2019. Honestly she doesn’t need to anymore. The first Wizarding World park is getting a new ride and almost every store I go to I cant throw a stick without it hitting HP merch. She can’t even keep her own lore stable. Ffs she made it canon that old timey wizards were pant shitters.

Holy shit, you just hit the nail on the head with what’s been bothering me so much. JK Rowling has been feeding them what they should be eating up but it’s not working. She doesn’t understand why it’s not working, and they don’t understand why JK Rowling keeps feeding them like this. This is the reality they wanted.

I believe it has to do with how death of the author is a widely accepted thing in fandom culture. "The creator of this media is bigoted, the characters I like are mine now and I can make everything that should have been canon (usually identity related) canon." I think the problem they have is Rowling had the ability to make those things real in her book, but didn't, and because of fandom mentality she therefore forfeited any ability to have control over her characters thanks to coming off as homophobic for making Dumbledore gay but not explicitly saying so in canon. It's not a full explanation of why it's okay when they do it, but I think this is a component.

Ah Death of the Author...Is there anything else that has been as throughly ruined by Fandoms as Death of the Author has?

Considering there's the whole "fictionkin" thing that absolutely has zero respect for the fact that a creator's characters and settings are their intellectual property (you get people claiming they have 'kin memories' of being those characters and in a world that didn't exist until the creator thought it up), I think not.

No one mentioned Badeea Ali yet? She's the first muslim witch in the HP universe. She shows up in the mobile game Hogwarts Mystery along with a bunch of other culturally diverse characters.

Of course, they don't mention the fact that muslims hate witchcraft.
Quran 2:102

And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah . And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.

Yes, those books are pretty racist. That's why a race of ugly, hook-nosed, greedy bastards runs the banking system.

Even if it was during the 70s-80s that the "Islamic revival" started, it was still uncommon to see Muslim women and girls in the West (at least in my homecountries) wearing the hijab in the 80s. What are the odds that she would be covered up in "modesty" clothing and have a conservative mother whose biggest concern about her being a witch is "Muggle technology doesn't work at my daughter's school"?
