You don't get to 300 pounds without some serious mental health issues.
Exactly this. Just look at shows like My 600 pound life and so on. Most of these people and many others always have some sort of mental issue going on. Whether it's from past trauma, stress, mental illness, etc. The root of the problem is not the food itself, but how they consume large amounts of food to cope. Don't get me wrong, some foods are definitely designed to be addictive. But these people clearly lack self-control and the ability to manage what they eat.
I'd argue while addiction is hard to curb, food addiction is even harder. At least for stuff like alcohol or things alongside that, you don't need it to survive. You want to know what you need to survive? Food. It's all too easy for these people to indulge in the rush of eating food because it's just so accessible to them. Especially if they have enablers.
What the FA movement is doing is only enabling these people to go and cope with their mental issues NOT with exercise and therapy but with food, the most essential thing you need to survive. And because it's so easy to get it just makes things even worse. And yeah, you could argue no one needs to eat several dozen donuts to survive, but when you're feeling terrible and dealing with emotional stress and trauma, it becomes easier and easier to get through the pack each time. I find it disgusting that these people even advocate for acceptance when all they're doing is encouraging people to slowly kill themselves instead of getting help.
