People keep bringing up At-Will without understanding it doesn’t have any bearing here. At-Will only applies to regular employees or contractors who do not have individual specific contracts with the employer. In the case of Individual Contracts the Contract supersedes the At-Will status. Named Actors are pretty much always Individual Contract. So At-Will does not apply. Funi would still need a reason to cancel the contract, depending on the terms of the contract.
And it was obvious that terminating Vic was not Funi’s main desire. Remember there was a prior investigation that was unfounded. Funi was not searching for a reason to let Vic go. They were facing similar pressure and mafia tactics that we see with Kamehacon Con. The VA Cartel brought this to Funi and demanded action. What is also 8mportant to note is there does not seem to be any new or current claim of abuse that triggered this. Rather it was a rise in Vic’s prominence due to a popular role.which immediately makes it suspect.
That is actually very, very plausible. I was mistaken about the at-will thing. I didn't look into it enough.
And I am pretty much believing that the investigations in the summer of 2018 (which was stated by a Funimation employee) and the investigations of January-February were conducted identically. That's why it was never stated by Funimation whether Vic was guilty of harassment or not, yet putting that they don't condone harassment, which is a mistake if they didn't find evidence of harassment.
But I do wonder if these people pulled the same tactics in the summer 2018 investigation.
I also have another theory, but I don't know if it's been mentioned already in this thread, or if it's even plausible. Maybe I'm on drugs; I don't know.
What if Funimation and Rooster Teeth were treating Vic like Disney did with James Gunn (when he was fired and then rehired when the stuff hovering the Fox buyout was happening)? Waiting for the bullshit to blow over to avoid the negative press with both Funimation (
Dragon Ball Super: Broly) or RoosterTeeth (
RWBY and
gen:LOCK), then rehiring him at some point later. They should know that all of this is happening by now, on top of the Kameha Con stuff, and the fact that they're not doing anything about it goes to show unwillingness to be consistent when it comes to morality and standards. All of this will negatively affect them. But what if that's the point? What if, in Funimation's, people like Sabat and Rial were a problem? We're now seeing that criminal activity could be a big possibility now from all of this. No studio in California has fired him from what we know, I believe. Funimation might have plans to rehire Vic, and leave the accusers out to dry as a result of all of this.
This is all just conjecture, of course.
Protecting a Twitter account doesn't actually delete tweets. It just makes it so they can only be seen by people who mutually follow you, if I recall correctly. (It's been argued deleting tweets doesn't actually "delete" them either in terms of completely removing them from Twitter's databases, so it's possible even deleted tweets can be recovered if they subpoena Twitter.)
I know that. The problem with him doing this is that he can alter or do anything he wants while only the people who can see his tweets now can see what he tweeted. Stuff isn't actually deleted. It's either archived or with Twitter.
I don't understand what he accomplishes by protecting his tweets, especially now. If he's trying to block "harassment", he could either ignore it (which would have been the smartest choice he made this whole time) or disable notifications of block people. Instead, he keeps protecting his account, which doesn't make him look good whatsoever. At some point, if he unprotects his tweets, he's going to be encountered by the "harassers" on social media again.
Something tells me his lawyer said he was fucked, and decided to do this. Or La Choy is continuing to be a dirty idiot.
