every time i see some sort of anglosphere cooking show and they are making cake, they fill the cake with the same stuff as they frost it. is this universal in the anglo world or is it just these horrible cooking shows?

Depends on the cake, though it's more of a clapistan thing than an anglo one, the only bong cake that does it is carrot cake.

The way other people cook is barbaric in my eyes, but I guess that's every kid's eyes when using mom's recipes. There is a difference between an ounce and a fluid ounce.

US needs to get on their ass and get on the metric system, you'd probably cut a hunk off of the obesity problem of people pouring a "heaping half cup" where there's like a mountain of sugar around the cup measure and you have to gently move the thing when you pry it out lest you lose a precious grain.
