The Horrific War Crimes of Japan, never acknowledged, never atoned for, or apologized for. - Kawaii culture used as propaganda to make Japan look better after killing millions of people.

Will the world ever openly condemn Japan, and will Japan ever accept its history, or just bury it?

When you think of Japan today you typically think of adorable anime characters, men marrying body pillows, vending machines selling soiled school-girl panties, and typically bizarre fucking things. Japan today is, to outsiders, mostly just a meme, and a source of strange, sometimes wonderful entertainment. When thinking of Japan, people often visualize anime schoolgirls, bright cities with weird food and the aforementioned vending machines and body pillows. Most people today don't have this pop into their heads when thinking of Japan.

Yes, that is an infant impaled on a Japanese soldiers' bayonet. That is a real picture. Lovely

Now, these images are from an historical incident known as The Rape of Nanking. Just one of many of Japans' brutal war crimes against the Chinese, Koreans, Asians in general. I came across this video on the subject, and it really surprised me. I had never been taught this in school.

I really recommend watching the entire thing. Just Google The Rape of Nanking afterward and you'll see hundreds of articles and thought pieces on why Japan has never formally apologized, pardoned many of the war criminals involved, and even has a war memorial to a group of one thousand of them. Really, there is nothing i can type out that explains it better than the video.

After all that though, I want to know what everyone thinks. Why won't japan apologize? What role did the US, if any, play in this attitude by Japan? Why isn't the mainstream going after Japan the way they go after anyone to the center of the right, or actual Nazis, when the crimes Japan committed were on par with Nazi Germany, and often worse? What would China be like today if Japan had been properly punished?

Will humanity ever not be fucking horrible?

I blame MacArthur. He was always a fascist pig at heart.

I still support Japan over China, and Chinese propaganda against Japan is still a deliberate obfuscation measure against China's many crimes against humznity in general and China's own people in particular since World War II, but Japan's behavior on this has been nearly as bad as Turkey's.

The fact is the Chinese are in the process of making a goddamn anime about Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels called The Leader that will undoubtedly gloss over the fact they were two trust fund assholes that never worked a goddamn honest day in their lives. I can only hope they're rotting in Hell for unleashing the most destructive ideology humanity has ever embraced. The ChiComms have absolutely NO ROOM to be casting aspersions on the war crimes committed by the Japanese.

The US needed a strong ally in the region so it pretty much went down this way : Hey Japan you done some fucked up shit dude but hey you hang a dozen dudes and we'll call it a day alright ? And that was it. There and in Europe a lot of officers, scientists, nazis, war criminals and whatnot were given free passes no matter what they had done if they were deemed useful or willing to fight the evil commies.

Well, that and Japan seemed to have a weird, oscillating obsession with America.

The thing is, I want Japan to own up to it without feeling overly guilty about it to the point their society crumbles. Nations make really dumb mistakes to appease other nations these days.

What's astonishing to me is that Japan hadn't been such monsters during the Boxer Rebellion what with their soldiers being among the most well behaved and going so far as to play with Chinese Christian children by even bringing over toys for them -- if one account from a war journalist can be believed. The worst were Russians and Germans - if I remember the latter correctly - where they constantly raped, pillaged and otherwise abused the people they were supposed to be protecting. Got so bad American and British soldiers started beating up the Russian soldiers for it, but I digress. Point is they shouldn't spill their guts out, but at least admit mistakes were made.

All of this said... until a time people stop demanding we burn ourselves alive for past sins I'm not sure I really feel comfortable pressuring Japan to apologize, blood in the water and all that. Plus Lord knows I don't want another South Africa scenario with direct line of sight across the Pacific.

That tends to happen when you're the only nation to effectively nuke another and just prior force open their borders. It's the equivalent of them getting a proper dicking.

To be fair they paid a bunch of war reparations though, but not to China.

And it'd be kind of hard to have any kind of diplomatic relations with any somewhat relevant country if we were keeping tabs of all the horrors. For example the US were involved in some pretty terrible shit in almost all of South America during the Cold War, and everyone is acting like it never happened.

Nobody cares about South America, though. Pretty sure they had slave hunts where they hunted down black people with machetes for fun and if Black Twitter taught me anything it's that South America got what was coming to them.

Nothing the US did in South America compares in scale to the atrocities committed by any member of the Axis during World War II.

Or by the Red Army during World War II, which, unlike America or England, was aligned with the Axis between '39 and '41.

The Red Army also committed by far the worst atrocities of the Allies once they were forced to switch teams by Barbarossa. Orders of magnitude more rapes in occupied enemy territory, for instance.

So what, unless you're in the top 3 of the leaderboard of atrocities you can't be held accountable ? It's weird to expect others to atone and then say "but XXX did worse/YYY deserved it anyway/why the hell are we talking about this just move on" when you're asked to do the same.

Honestly if we really start caring about all that we might as well nuke the whole planet down and give another species a shot at being the top dog, maybe octopuses will be a little kinder to each other when they achieve world domination
