When you think of Japan today you typically think of adorable anime characters, men marrying body pillows, vending machines selling soiled school-girl panties, and typically bizarre fucking things. Japan today is, to outsiders, mostly just a meme, and a source of strange, sometimes wonderful entertainment. When thinking of Japan, people often visualize anime schoolgirls, bright cities with weird food and the aforementioned vending machines and body pillows. Most people today don't have this pop into their heads when thinking of Japan.
Yes, that is an infant impaled on a Japanese soldiers' bayonet. That is a real picture. Lovely
Now, these images are from an historical incident known as The Rape of Nanking. Just one of many of Japans' brutal war crimes against the Chinese, Koreans, Asians in general. I came across this video on the subject, and it really surprised me. I had never been taught this in school.
I really recommend watching the entire thing. Just Google The Rape of Nanking afterward and you'll see hundreds of articles and thought pieces on why Japan has never formally apologized, pardoned many of the war criminals involved, and even has a war memorial to a group of one thousand of them. Really, there is nothing i can type out that explains it better than the video.
After all that though, I want to know what everyone thinks. Why won't japan apologize? What role did the US, if any, play in this attitude by Japan? Why isn't the mainstream going after Japan the way they go after anyone to the center of the right, or actual Nazis, when the crimes Japan committed were on par with Nazi Germany, and often worse? What would China be like today if Japan had been properly punished?
Will humanity ever not be fucking horrible?
