Extra Credits - leftie gaming channel that had two of its members accused of "misconduct" in only 2 months

Yeah, it makes sense they go after the big fish, worshipping them for their bigness to get the community talking about them. Not that there's anything wrong in the big fish, they're successful, but every whale has a few parasites.

League of Legends balance team is literally the players, and how loudly they whine on the forums about the champs after they drop. I think the champ design team don't do much at all in terms of balancing before just throwing things out. A few champs are still broken in a few chosen roles. To this day the only champion that wasn't slightly overtweaked on release was Yorick, and he's also the only champion that didn't get a significant nerf in the patch immediately following.
That being said, to be fair, it's a highly skill based game, and even if you get to design a champ around what you perceive is your own skillset, you might still play it in a shitty way and someone can just double its effectiveness by doing something else. You kind of need the huge masses to test the champs.

I never thought i'd reach low diamond on what started off as a joke duo bot of Mundo and Gragas (Mundo being supportive), but hey, sometimes stupid shit works in this game. If anyone remembers Moscow 5, they're practically the forerunners of stupid shit that works.

As for the EC video, i vaguely remember them putting some pants-on-head-retarded line of how the imbalance of champions is intentional. Which technically would make sense if the game's items and champion set would be completely static with no new champions filtering in, but all new champions and items are going to change how portions of the game play.

EDIT: Looks like things are moving up from community to Youtube

While we're on it, EC really likes to jerk off popular games like WoW and League to get those videos posted to subreddits and get extra views

I think they did a balance video on League of legends and praised it which is hillarious because league's balance team is literally a joke
Lol, people who are supposed to know game design praise shit like Overwatch.

Hey, anyone done the research on their video about Conflict Minerals being used to create consoles?

Their premise is that console companies are outsourcing to illegal sweatshops and including conflict minerals (which are causing violence and rape in Africa) to make consoles, and that in a 2012 study by the Enough! Project, Nintendo is especially guilty of this. This problem can allegedly be curbed (or even solved) by raising console prices by as little as $5 per unit.

I am open to this being a "stopped clock is right twice a day" moment for EC, because it is an informative and well put together episode, but I have a problem- who's to say companies are going to raise console prices and not pocket the extra money? Or that they aren't making a level of profit (in good times of course) to offset this now?

Anyone who's researched this video/issue and has dissenting observations, get back to me.

I've heard about the whole conflict minerals thing before aaaand with even a cursory read that report's(NOT A STUDY!) conclusion, and most of EC's claims about it are ridiculous and absurd bullshit.
Starting off, you can throw away any study or scientific report and its findings right off the bat so long it's not published in an established, respectable journal. You, me, anyone can put out a study and post findings of it with any kind of reasoning, agenda and bias behind it and post it on a sleek professional-looking webpage.

Studies and pretty much all scientific papers are peer-reviewed as they're published, the more respectable the journal, the more rigorous the review of the study's findings. The "Enough! Project" self-published their report, and considering the former, you can kind of gather what overall value it has.

The stark reality is that if anything comes out of certain regions of Africa, there's a good chance that a sizeable cut of its price is going to go to a warlord. The mentality of "errything will be okay if we just boycott certain things from certain places!" just won't work, at all.

Of course, since EC never cites their findings, i had to do a lot of digging. Their report (which Enough themselves calls a report) that they're referring to is found here.

I kinda forgot about Extra Credits to be honest, its been awhile since I've actually seen one of their videos pop up.
Never really got into their main videos about gaming but I do remember somewhat liking the videos where the old host talked about animation on their second channel (In hindsight it was probably because the writer wasn't really involved) iirc he claimed that he used to be an animator for pixar but skimming through the thread I wouldn't be surprised if that was a bit of a stretch

Off-Topic: Real talk, all glory to Boogie. He is probably the sweetest person in general i've ever had the pleasure of chatting with for a short while.

Sorry but I've to disagree with you there. Boogie is not a either a nice nor a sweet person. He is actually a manipulative asshole. You should check his thread sometime or r/SamAndTolki.

Don't want to derail too much but Boogie has the history of harassing people that question his lies on weight loss, and abusing women like Lucy Foxx, passive-aggressive jabs at his ex-wife, having fantasies of murdering her, among other things.

Back to the topic: Yes Daniel Floyd did work on Pixar. But what he failed to mention is that it was Pixar Canada, that studio that closed and I don't think they made any long movies. So yeah.

Does anyone know the real reason he left his BFF James?

The first time I heard of these guys was seeing the spectrum crunch video after some one shared it is a joke.
My main about that video is how do you even get to their conclusion. Like complete boomer ignorance wouldnt lead them to something that retarded. But if they knew what they were talking, obviously they wouldn't come to the opinion.
I'd really like to see the source they used for that video.

Huh, I’ve seen that channel very recently but I didn’t realize it was Dan’s new channel.
I can think of three reason to why a lot of people haven't realized this is Dan
1) His voice isn't sped up or altered in the way most people know him for
2) There has been little promotion from the Extra Credits channel, the only one I can find is dan mentioning he was starting a new channel in his last episode
3) As far as I can tell there isn't really any of the issues from the Extra Credits channel present. I haven't seen every video so I could be wrong (probably some choice bits in his lestplay channel and his twitters probably a hot mess) But for main videos its almost been nothing but animation, the only vaguely controversial video so far is one about RDR2 where to sum it he called the animation while immersive a bit tedious.

I haven't played RDR 2 because i do very little in the ways of console games, and pretty much only stick to Nintendo there too, but a lot of art-school artists that work in gamedev (which probably Rockstar are hiring) produce great consistent art, but really have no understanding on usability, especially long term.
Yeah, Steve, the transitional animation to the menu you did is great, it looks absolutely brilliant and should be hanged on the wall of a museum, but it lasts for 2 seconds and will play 500 times during a 10 hour period of the game. People are gonna want to hang themselves by hour 2. The most egregious example of this is pretty much all Playstation era Final Fantasies and their unskippable summon animations, but it's still in a lot of things today.

Rdr 1 had a lot of autistic little animations based around gameplay mechanics too. Though I think people just deal with it because when it comes to rdr, they do a good job of getting you into the beat of the game.
Perhaps they used rdr and rdr 2 to practice for gta games.

The new guy doing the history videos isn't that bad as far as I know.

I mean... a government nearly universally recognized as a legitimate Caliphate literally invading Europe while opposed by an alliance of Christian countries kinda is a "deathmatch between Christianity and Islam" but whatever.

I did like EC at first up until they put out the "Hatred is evil and should be banned" video. They made pretty watchable videos, but after that I unsubscribed and had to call them faggots of the highest order. Hatred was "edgelord supreme in video game form", and that was the entire point, trying to cry for it to be banned when it's just 4chan the vidjya is retarded.
