The Mega Gyarados doesn't look too bad but when placed with Misty, it looks like it came from an entirely different artist. The artist is capable of making good pictures but this is just unnecessary.

A well-known YouTuber by the name "Ya boi Zach" pointed out how SJWs are hellbent on queer canon and forcing it in places whether or not it makes sense. They don't care if it fails or never gets touched again because, "at least there's a canon gay/Muslim/trans/female/queer/vegetable character!" And just like a lot of artists in this thread, they'll meddle with existing characters with established backgrounds and stories just to get progressive points.
And headcanons? Hold onto your hat or they'll blow it away as they scream about canonically white, straight, male, non-trans characters are "like, so totally gay for this other straight character I declare is gay, trans, non-binary with no grounds to support it with!"

These people don't understand how a portfolio works. To give some perspective. When you apply for art school or make a portfolio you want to do the sandwich method. Show your best work first and last to leave an impression. Many people who aren't super deep into art are going to like things that display more skill or creativity. When you see repeated elements in multiple portfolios it's usually because the artist knows what works and makes it stick. It's easy to find a pattern of what a general audience likes.

This isn't limited to "straight guys" either. Depending on your requirements there will be certain things you are not allowed to show. For example, some art schools tell you avoid pictures of flowers, landscapes, etc not because they are bad, but they are so generic it's easy to replicate. It takes more skill to go out of your comfort zone and try other things.

That being said, these things that the OP Twitter person posted are so subjective. People do post those things and use them. Why? BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SKILL. It's because they know how to make it look good or creative. But even then not every portfolio is the same. And to make that huge generalization is ridiculous. Do some people draw shitty and get accepted to art school? Hell yes. But welcome to life. You find people who scrape by doing whatever they can. It's a waste of time to target a group of people when you could improve yourself.

Don't like how something is drawn. Just make it. You've done infinitely more than people complaining on Twitter. Congrats.
