I once heard the more solid argument regarding lolicon that no actual kids were involved in its production. It’s still creepy as hell to me, but it does manage to keep some people away from illegal pictures and illegal activities. Problem with that is - it also encourages other people to seek out more extreme rushes once the thrill of drawings subside.

Main thing in my understanding is that it's possible to be a pedophile but not a molester, same way it's possible to be gay and not an active sodomite. one's about interest, the other's about action.

They associate the pedophile label with the act of molesting children and try to dodge the label because they're some level of ashamed about it, not realizing that the part people abhor isn't the label but the part where they wanna see kids get fucked (the part they should be ashamed about, and keep under wraps).

You can also be a child molester but not a pedo, and you could have molested the kid for another reason (eg to spite your ex you rape his daughter, your wife isn't having sex with you so you molest your nephew for release).

I think the stigma is more so that pedo= criminal molester and they worry if they come forward for treatment the law will get involved and they will be investigated even if they didn't do anything illegal. In Germany though medical confidentiality is really strong so they have a program to treat pedos who haven't offended yet called project Dunkelfeld, which is designed to reduce their harmful urges, give them therapy for their psychological problems and prevent them from offending.

I can at least feel the smallest bit of sympathy for people who want help and actively avoid contact with minors to help prevent anything from happening. Ben isn't this sort of person though, he seems to think everyone else is weird for thinking he's sick in the head. I don't really think we need to worry about him ever getting near kids though, any parent with a functioning brain stem would yank their kids and take them far away as soon as they heard that nasally autistic drawl. Sidenote: I'd always heard about project Dunkelfeld but never bothered looking up if it was real, interesting to hear that it's actually a thing.
