Could a settlement also include a public retraction? I'd figure that would be pretty important, given that these assholes destroyed his reputation so publicly.
Knowing even the smallest bit about Vic, I guarantee you his first offer is a very small monetary settlement attached to a public apology and retraction. Knowing even the smallest bit about the defendants, they'd take the chance of having a $35 million ruling against them over a $100K settlement and apology.

Hm... if Vic is already spending out of the legal defense fund before the settlement, and he includes lawyers fees in the settlement calculation... who gets that money?

Or is Ty working on contingency this whole time?

I've been wondering this as well. Funimation is basically the representative of Dragon Ball (and others, but Dragon Ball and it's characters are HUGE), with many of the VAs going so far as to heavily associate themselves with the characters. The bad behavior of the VAs in some way is damaging the Dragon Ball brand. I can't imagine Toei watching all this with a care free smile.

Japan probably thinks we're crazy enough with all the fuss ANN and the SJWs kick up over new anime, I wonder if this cluster fuck looks to them.
One of the youtubers said they made sabat change the name of that "prince of all saiyans tour" and didn't want ryo horikawa to go to kamehacon. People have claimed toei is upset but I've seen no concrete proof.

I don't think the Japanese think any less of us than they already do. They are businesses so they act like a business. They aren't some emotional entities who take action over some petty thing like a rapist getting falsely fired. They simply do what they believe is the best decision and also dumb decisions. If let's say the VAs kept their mouth shut like smart people then I doubt Funimation would lose any IPs even if they lost. But I can't really say what they'll do after experiencing this clown show especially since it hits their pockets now. The Broly movie did so well that the pure irony is that because of that movie I bet Toei will do squat. They aren't happy, but they aren't going to go through the headache of trying to find another studio to make the English Dub. I doubt they will pull from Funi.

That's basically my thoughts, I don't think toei is going to pull any licenses unless funimation sales plummet. They don't care about the actual incident, but what they do care about is the integrity of their IPs and sales. Funimation has never really been great at what they do anyways, how many different box sets of dragon ball have they released now without giving fans what they are asking for? But as long as people gobble them up toei has no motivation to do anything

Did he keep "REEEEEING" about how YF was abusing the "Gender System" to get Ren suspended and how people should report HIM? Not sure if he was using proper pronouns when he was complaining about that and can't check on it now.

Well he was trying to get people to target yfg.

@5t3n0g0ph3r should stop posting pictures that show rape and normalizing it.

More seriously though it's good Vic got out of the house, looked like he was going a bit stir crazy there for a while and it's sad to see that he's not hugging female fans. Not worth the risk at this point though.

I really think they were bluffing about welcoming a court case, somewhere in those deluded minds they thought it would scare Vic out of taking them to court.

Their so-called eagerness to go to court is as convincing and intimidating as this pathetically ineffectual defense mechanism of a frog:

It is literally the desperate REEEEEE of a frog that realizes its situation is hopeless and has nothing better to do.

I still think it's :optimistic: that they yank the licenses, although this is my dream scenario. I honestly don't get why they haven't. This shit is a disgrace and they've massively lost face, but apparently not in their own minds (and not in Japan which might explain why they do not care), or at least not yet. I am hoping they realize this and are just waiting for whatever residual income comes in from the Broly movie before making their move.

That said, though, they shut down Chris Sabat's studio tour event, by telling him he couldn't use their IP for it, which is a real move that indicates they're at the very least not happy about this bullshit and, more importantly, not happy with Chris Sabat in particular.

I am hoping :optimistic: that this signifies something more coming down the pike. Let's all cross fingers on that.

Sony bought funimation almost entirely for the licenses they had, since sony wants to make yet another streaming service. Funimation is run essentially no differently than it was before buyout, aside from becoming even lazier now that any time something comes up, they don't have to fix a problem, they can beg daddy sony for resources, like how they were unable to handle an hr investigation on their own.

Gen Fukunaga is gone. While apparently the company has always been a mess, Gen apparently stood up for Vic and the scummy conspirators took his departure as an opportunity to stab Vic in the back.

LOL! Just wait until Savannah Mega Comic Con!

MUHAHAHAHAHA!

Is Vic now limited to cons in the Deep South? That seems to be where a lot of these are. I'm just wondering because that probably goes to damages. Places apparently exist that will allow him as a guest, but for instance, is it likely he ever goes to San Diego Comic Con again under the current circumstances?

Let's see:
Puerto Rico Comic Con (May 17-19) @damian is going to this one (so he says)
Savannah Mega Comic Con (June 8-9)
Anime Matsuri (June 13-16)
Bubba Fest (August 23-25)
HawaiiCon (September 26-29)

That seems to be it unless another con announces him or I'm forgetting one.

Toei and Funi have a contract for the license, and it's quite possible that said contract doesn't allow for Funi to simply just suddenly revoke the license on a whim without penalties. Maybe they are waiting for it to expire, at which point they will decline renewal offers from Funi.

Even if Toei could instantly pull the license, that presumably causes other problems. What about the DVDs that are currently in stores; would they instantly become bootlegs? Where would that leave Cartoon Network, who presumably have a subcontract with Funi to air the show; would they have to stop airing it and negotiate a new contract if and when Toei finds a new licensor?

It's quite possible that the DVDs would become bootlegs and that Cartoon Network would also have to renegotiate the license.

It is a clown world after all.

I'm sure there is stipulations and clauses in said contract that would allow toei to terminate it. Personally I would love to see another company get a shot at dragonball. But that's probably wishful thinking
