Game of Thrones Thread

All my favorite theories died at the beginning of Season 8.

That said, Need to snoop around, there were some "spoilers" that were dropped near the end of Season 7 regarding how S8 was going to end, and they were pretty outlandish as fuck. If I can find some of them I'll post them here. All I remember are things like Dany getting pregnant with Jon's kid, getting her ass beat by Euron and hiding on Dragonstone with Vary's while giving birth and dying in childbirth. Euron kills Cersei, seizes power, Jon rides Drogon into Kings Landing and the armies clash blah blah blah, Euron meets Jon in the Dragonpit, Jon has Drogon roast Euron who had set up the entire place with wildfire just in case...so if he lost nobody would win. Boom, no more Kings Landing. Think it ended with...Tyrion ruling as Lord Protector until Jon and Dany's kid comes of age, and Missandei is his wife or something? I dunno, it was some wacky shit. But, a funny read that at the TIME seemed outlandish as hell, but given the current spoilers...actually seems almost preferable to fucking KING BRAN.

HAHAHAHAAAAA
“So got some info. Looks like it confirms some of the leaks mentioned above. Varys dies next episode (Dany burns him alive), Dany and Unsullied fuck up kings landing and they begin to surrender but the surrender bells that sound off in a tower literally "break" Dany mentally and she goes pure mad targaryan. It sounds like it is setting up Jon and Grey Worm confrontation. Grey Worm also lets his anger get the better of him as Lannister troops surrender he says fuck it and throws a spear at a soldier which starts a crazy riot where Dany's army starts raping and pillaging everyone. Jon is like wtf apparantly but gets caught up in the battle to really do anything (lannisters start attacking again). There was a leak I read earlier I'll try and find it because what my source was telling me was very similiar to that leak and they more or less confirmed everything in that leak 100% true.”

“Yeah i think Unsullied are just indiscriminately killing (women and children) and Dothraki go on a rape rampage. Source didnt get specific but I dont see Unsullied doing any penetrating except with an actual spear. Cleganebowl happens this episode (5) and they do both die. Grey Worm and Jon have a big stare down and Grey Worm thinks Jon is gonna start killing Unsullied so hes like waiting for Jon to turn on Dany so he can kill him but a Lannister soldier distracts Jon instead. Source says they are heavily saying Dany is going mad so I would put some weight to the leaks saying Jon kills Dany. I mentioned that to the source and they just said "Oh yeah definitely leading up to that" so take that for what it is.

No mention of Arya unfortunately, she must be more for episode 6? Not sure.

Honestly when they told me "bells make her snap" my jaw hit the floor. Im personally not liking these and the more silly ones (Bran becoming the king) have a very real possibility of being legit imo. Hopefully the execution is better.”

This was from a guy who’s been dead accurate in the past.
What.

What were your favorite theories? One I found interesting was that Winterfell was the Lightbringer. I imagined the place becoming a magical nuke used to defeat or stall the White Walkers.
I'm a huge fan of the night lamp theory and think it would have been much better than the BotB (+more shocking for D&D).

Personally I think one of the biggest problems is their need for things to be as dramatic as possible at all times. The series really should be winding down now as we go through a series of touching character prologues. Instead we've got this stinker of a plot.
It almost feels like they handed the plot to a 14 year old jon snow fanboy/girl.

I really want the bell trigger to be real. The memes will be godly.

Its a strange feeling, looking towards something being jawdroppingly shit, but I must confess I am getting hyped for the shitshow to come

The only winners are the ones who died early enough in the series to keep their dignity.

By god, what you are saying is that Joffrey and Walder Frey are characters with dignity compared to this, we have truly been forsaken. Though I will say the character whose death was a symbol of intelligent character decisions dying was Tywin Lannister as was a truly brilliant as well as a terrifying character who would do anything for their House namesake.

I don't know what it's like in the books, but the show never recovered from losing Tywin as the heavy. Ramsay Bolton was a lunatic (Roose had potential but was underused); the High Sparrow was great but only got where he was through Cersei's incompetence (and never had a chance of making it through to the end); Cersei herself just gets drunker and smugger as the series decays. Charles Dance was the real pillar that held up the realm.

Tywin is one of those rare characters in a show where it truly shows why he is brilliant, terrifying, and why people would listen to him as everything he does commands loyalty. His character was consistent in the context of the show and his reasoning for hating Tyrion was understood as he blamed him for the death of his wife, which could also be doubled as an affront to House Lannister, even though his son was proving his worth, especially with his decision at The Battle of Blackwater which really damaged Stannis Baratheon's ambitions to claim the Iron Throne.

Since we're talking Tywin can we appreciate how perfect this scene is? It's under 5 minutes long but illustrates so much about his character. He's ruthless, he has his own sense of honor and duty, he's clearly disappointed in his children and is concerned with the future of his house. A future that wouldn't even be on the horizon if not for his own efforts. I think the only thing weird with this scene is diverting half your force into such a hard assault, but even then it follows his need to see the house itself continue. Tywin was a great complex antagonist and had a great end, succumbing to his own selfish emotions that he chastised others for.

There is not one scene with Charles Dance that isn't pure gold.

What about Ghostbusters 2016 though?

I was only talking about GoT, but I'm sure if there's anything watchable in that crapfest, he'll be responsible for it.

If you really want to savor a Charles Dance performance, watch The Golden Child and marvel at how he restrains himself from strangling Eddie Murphy as the latter openly mocks the script.

EDIT: Oh, Christ, Daenerys is Hillary Clinton? I knew the hot takes would be exceptional, but I clearly undershot how exceptional they'd be. Besides, Cersei is closer to Hillary, what with the marriage of political convenience, insane vindictiveness, total incompetence, and the drinking, so much drinking.
