Game of Thrones Thread

Not to side with D&D however, the reality of the situation is that no matter what happens, there is going to be a large chunk of the fandom (and I'm using "fandom" in the loosest sense of the word) that is going to be pissed off.

- If Jon wins and Dany dies - expect all the usual woke rags to scream sexism that she wasn't able to get the throne, and how the show was sexist since day one, etc. etc.
- If Dany wins and Jons dies - expect a HUGE chunk of the hardcore fandom to be incredibly pissed off about how the show has devolved into an R-rated Disney princess movie.
- If neither Jon or Dany get the throne - expect a lot of the normies to take to social media to decry about how the show didn't play out like every other fantasy show/movie ever has.
- If Jon and Dany decide to rule as King and Queen - Normies will like it, but the woke rags will scream how Dany's role is lessened as she's not being the sole ruler, and expect the hardcore fanbase to be pissed that some characters actually managed to work things out without murdering each other.

The ending is going to piss off people irregardless. One could hope they could at least make an ending that was at least appropriate and fitting the source material, but since the main baddie got "nothing personnel, kid'd", Team Stark is now the Boxcar Children in fur coats, and Cersei is now the Forgotten Disney Evil Queen, I'm not holding my breath.
I seriously doubt there were alternate endings filmed. Either way, they could have pissed off less of the fandom, instead, they chose to marginalize most of it.

Money isn't always spent on makeup, CGI and sets. I don't know what contracts are or what GRRM is getting. Executives themselves are part of the equation, who knows which parachutes they got.

When Jodorovky was filming Dune, he wanted Pablo Picasso (yeah, that one) to play the emperor. Pablo demanded 1million/hour. So they shot 6min scene with him and writers had to accommodate that into script somehow. The moral is that very often the $$$ are driving the script more than creativity of the writers.

So far, Cersei has been wearing the same fucking dress all season long, I feel so sad that I wanted to lend her some shit. Last episode makeup was pathetic, everyone had one (1, uno, odin) token hurt on their face. Dragons are not new work either, most investment into it is already done. I am not seeing all the sheckels here. I'm trying to put monetary value on each episode and I don't see where the money went. You can film half of that episode with a bunch of weekend larpers, no joke. Fucking feast room was just fucking sad.

I don't know, may be in the last episode nakid GRRM rides on gold plated Obama and fucks Trump in ass while grabbing pussy. I just haven't seen the same splendor or dress, makeup or new CGI as in some previous seasons. How the fuck this short season is so expensive, I don't know, not even if everyone is snorting cocaine with diamonds all day long.
They did say they had trouble filming the night scenes because everyone's circadian rhythm was out of whack and the weather had to be just right, costing them 55 days.

Of all the spoilers, Jaime ‘s character arc—running back to and dying in Cersei’s arms after having a sword fight with a goddamn pirate over an incest baby—might be the single most hilariously awful thing this show has done. The actors must’ve been laughing their asses off while tearing their hair out.

Emilia Clarke was on record as saying that she spent the aftermath of reading the last script wandering around London in a shellshocked daze. That didn't make sense to me until recently.

You know meeting the Others in the field instead of in a castle actually makes sense if they'd been pinned there in a long siege. The dead don't have to feed their army, but garrisons have to eat. You can't just stick there and starve to death.

I doubt they established anything like that though.

HAHAHAHAAAAA
“So got some info. Looks like it confirms some of the leaks mentioned above. Varys dies next episode (Dany burns him alive), Dany and Unsullied fuck up kings landing and they begin to surrender but the surrender bells that sound off in a tower literally "break" Dany mentally and she goes pure mad targaryan. It sounds like it is setting up Jon and Grey Worm confrontation. Grey Worm also lets his anger get the better of him as Lannister troops surrender he says fuck it and throws a spear at a soldier which starts a crazy riot where Dany's army starts raping and pillaging everyone. Jon is like wtf apparantly but gets caught up in the battle to really do anything (lannisters start attacking again). There was a leak I read earlier I'll try and find it because what my source was telling me was very similiar to that leak and they more or less confirmed everything in that leak 100% true.”

“Yeah i think Unsullied are just indiscriminately killing (women and children) and Dothraki go on a rape rampage. Source didnt get specific but I dont see Unsullied doing any penetrating except with an actual spear. Cleganebowl happens this episode (5) and they do both die. Grey Worm and Jon have a big stare down and Grey Worm thinks Jon is gonna start killing Unsullied so hes like waiting for Jon to turn on Dany so he can kill him but a Lannister soldier distracts Jon instead. Source says they are heavily saying Dany is going mad so I would put some weight to the leaks saying Jon kills Dany. I mentioned that to the source and they just said "Oh yeah definitely leading up to that" so take that for what it is.

No mention of Arya unfortunately, she must be more for episode 6? Not sure.

Honestly when they told me "bells make her snap" my jaw hit the floor. Im personally not liking these and the more silly ones (Bran becoming the king) have a very real possibility of being legit imo. Hopefully the execution is better.”

This was from a guy who’s been dead accurate in the past.

This sounds awful. I can't wait.

I think the best ending would have been the Night King killing Dany and then resurrecting her as his bride. They both kill Cersei and reign terror on the iron throne for a year or so, only to be defeated by Jon Snow.

My vote for Night's Queen was Cersei, but we are in agreement that they needed to do something more with the Night King than "lol get fucked."

I'm very surprised no one's blamed Trump for this-yet.

"Cersei and Dany going crazy and losing their bid for the throne goes to show that even in Westeros men aren't ready for female leadership."

These things are already being written; they're just waiting for the string to play out.

How the fuck you mess up the continuity of the geographical location of a major metropolis with hours of footage and major geographical plot history? That would be like half way through Fargo, it's suddenly 70 degrees with palm trees and no one notices.
It's not the first time they've made geographical changes to a location, i think the reach changes 3 times by the time Sansa arrives and Winterfell has gone from hilly in S1 to flat ground S8 although that was obviously changed to make it easier to film battle scenes. Speaking of continuity changes... I was glad to see Winterfell cleaned up all of those bodies into ~80 piles, fixed the wall and filled in the pallisade moat they built...

Jon's speech emphasizing sisters also made me think the writers room went like this

I'm sure the people playing Dany, Jon, Sansa, and Arya asked for hugely inflated paychecks as they are integral to the story and have not had success outside of GOT. Emilia Clarke has had two big bombs with Terminator and Solo, Kit Harrington's big movie was the bomb Pompei, Sophie Turner made it into X-men, but wasn't liked as Jean Grey and her dark phoenix movie was stuck in limbo for ages while the Disney/Fox merger was negotiating - it's supposed to release next month, but I've seen no marketing or hype for it. Maise Williams film break was also going to be a X-men property 'the new mutants' which appears to have been super cancelled by Disney.

Harrington was also a CoD villain and Williams did some shitty movie about a schoolboy getting smartphone hacking powers because his iPhone got embedded in his brain (I shit you not).

At least my nigga Bronn is in John Wick 3.

"I did it for me, I loved it, it made me feel alive," Those uttered words have more impact now than any of the impactful scenes in GoT because of shitty writing mistakes that fucks alot of characterizations of characters. That one scene shows how much Walter White had fallen, but still was in the end honest about it because he still really loved his family and wanted to leave no loose ends before he went to save the last person who he could consider family.

(in honesty, the one who should kill Cersi is Jaime and my reasoning for it is that he goes to her and then realizes that all the bloodshed she caused wasn't worth it and his duty to the kingdom and its people, not to mention his honor is more important than his love interest. I really hate they are fucking over Jaime Lannister after we had seasons 6 and 7 starting to show he was losing faith in Cersi after she first blew up the Septum and the final betrayal of her word to send troop aid to the North against the White Walkers.

Though what would have also been cool is Jaime was the one who killed the Night King as his title of "Kingslayer" would have gone from one of sneering and distrust, to a man who redeemed himself to end the terrors of the night rather than him being stuffed agains the wall, but I guess I don't make 5 million dollars a year to write hack trash, do I)

She also did a stretch on Doctor Who Season 9 that everyone loathed (of course, that was "Mistakes Were Made: The Season.") As far as the New Mutants go, I don't remember Annalee ever being on their roster.

What were your favorite theories. One I found interesting was that Winterfell was the Lightbringer. I imagined the place becoming a magical nuke used to defeat or stall the White Walkers.

My favorite theory was R+L=J. I'm really glad that GRRM never confirmed it because I think the idea of a secret marriage producing a true heir to the throne after all these years goes against the spirit of ASOIAF. Nobody can have perfect honor, not even Ned. Jon's story is much richer having him swallow his hubris and become a part of something greater than his own hubris over being Ned's bastard. It was a pretty powerful decision for him to not abandon his duties to the Watch and ride south with Robb.

That scene with Maester Aemon and Jon feeding the ravens is one of the best on the series, mostly because of the actor playing Aemon (just like Max von Sydow as the 3ER is fantastic compared to the actor playing Bran deadpanning it). The fact both are unaware Jon is Rhaegar's son gives it some poignancy during a re-watch.

I really wanted Jaime to be Azor Ahai and conclude his redemption arc that way instead of scurrying back to the Red Keep because he loves the bad poosi. Lame.
