The Final Fantasy Thread

I'd figure it'd be a while. I googled playtimes and since the average ones were usually 70 hours (dayum) I'd figure I would be in it for the long haul. Thanks
70 hours is probably if you were going after every single thing in the game. I've completed it twice and both playthroughs tallied to about 45-50 hours. Make of that what you will.

Yup, if you try to go after the Knights of the Round materia by way of doing the ENTIRE Chocobo breeding thing, you'll double your game's length. Your reward for hours and hours and hours of work is a summon where the animation takes ages to play, and makes any battle dead simple. It's not worth it at all because you're not a bored 12 year old with nothing better to do all summer.

Usually the ingame item duplication is how most people bred the Golden Chocobos because you could gather the greens faster that way.

I've done that side mission once or twice and still clocked in about 50 hours.

I never minded the breeding much but probably because I've just been lucky. Not to mention stinking rich by the time I got to it.

This is notable because it can be stacked on top of the "Free/Starter" edition of ARR that was a free Twitch game for the last few months.

This.

Although I got my copy of ARR in a Humble Bundle a few years ago, but still.

FFXIV would be perfect to me if they added really hard dungeons like the mythic stuff in WoW. Oh well, its all a trade off. Its too hard for me to go back to WoW after having all my classes on one character.

I played FFVII in my teens, so my nostalgia doesn't extend as far. Whichever way it goes, people are going to complain either way, so I'm just along for the ride.

The new trailer hit me hard. If the trailer was a little longer it might have got a response out of me. FF7 is still in my top 2 main FF titles, not including spin-offs. I do have to admit that the model for Aerith looks so good. My only concerns are how Yuffie and Tifa look.

I didn't really play FF7 as a kid, although my uncle did.

So there is some nostalgia for VII but it's not that big of a deal for me like it is for other folks out there.

I had played a few Final Fantasy games on and off and here and there, but I didn't truly get into the series until Final Fantasy XV.

However, I am very excited about the remake of Final Fantasy VII despite the complaints.

Yes, Square Enix is dragging their ass on the remake, just like they did with Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III.

I haven't played Kingdom Hearts III so I can't really judge it, but I loved Final Fantasy XV and considered it well worth the wait despite any flaws it had (I still wish we could've got more DLC's for it)

Final Fantasy VII was the game that put Final Fantasy on the map in the West and is the most popular game in the franchise overall, for good or ill.

Whether the game still holds up over two decades later or if people are too blinded by nostalgia is a matter of debate, but what is not up for debate is that Square Enix is investing a lot of time and money into this and they want it to turn out as best as they can possibly make it.

Yes, Final Fantasy had a few releases in America before VII and they were successful in their own right, but VII was the game that took the series from a cult classic to a household name in video games among American gamers.

Honestly, this new trailer gives me some home that we may see more concrete information this year, possibly even a release date statement in the coming months. Now that both Final Fantasy XV and especially Kingdom Hearts III have been released, Square Enix can probably focus more of their time and resources on the remake of the most successful installment of their most successful property.

As for when the game itself will come out, my guess is most likely close to the release of the Playstation 5.

So until more information comes out, I'm guessing we'll see the remake in late 2020 or early-to-mid 2021.

Jessie and Biggs looked pretty neat.

If they flesh them out I'll be more annoyed when they drop a sector plate on them.

I'm going to say the release date is late this year or early next year. According to the official FF twitter most of the plans are in place for the run up to launch. They will be releasing more information next month, probably at E3.

I'd also say this is going to be releases on the PS4 and then when the PS5 is released they will release a better version on it as a launch title.

Gameplay looks like Kingdom hearts 3 or Final Fantasy 15. Could be a very solid Action RPG.

Also if the PS5 rumors are true more than likely FF7 will be a crossgen title which means you'll just need a single version and the same disc in the PS5 will get double enhanced performance. There won't be a version for ps4 or ps5 just one version for all.

I want to know how they will handle all the weird quirky stuff that ff7 was full of. Squating minigames, a bar full of weird bald people, running up 60 flights of stairs, Palmer getting hit by a truck and so on.
