Bannukah has finally arrived at RPGNet. The mods have finally realized that inviting people to wallow in self pity about how Bad Orange Man is literally raping them is getting on everyone's nerves, so they're calling a two-week moratorium on all politics to take a break from the never-ending tide of negativity. This goes over as well as can be expected.

Kind of ironic, given that Artaud did indeed get banned for just that. The only reason this thread was left open in the first place was to be a magnet for the obsequious fawning that the mods love and to bait the frothing exceptionals.

Hey, what do you know? I was right again. Also, Summer Solstice is permabanned! Yay!

Who will save the poor helpless mods from being bullied by these mean users?

"I really appreciate you all, just remember that I'm your moral better and will ban you for criticizing me!"

Yeah, because people disagreeing with you is such arduous emotional labor.

I have no idea who to root for in this dumpster-fire mess.

On one hand, the staff treats the posters like speds (okay, granted, a number of them ARE speds) and come off as heavy handed and arrogant. On the other, yeah, nonstop political rage can wear people down and maybe a break to get back to actual gaming might be a good idea. And some of these speds are pretty fucking obnoxious and entitled, to boot.

Where's that Ken Watanabe jpg with the 'let them fight' line...

When is someone just going to burn this thing down

Don't worry, there's still plenty of people slobbering the mods' collective knob. Why do you think they left the thread open in the first place?

Same, honestly.

I honestly feel like these people would benefit from having a free-for-all forum where they can yell at each other about politics endlessly at the cost of having to interact with people who have a slightly different opinion. Gasp.

Maybe they'll toughen the fuck up and stop whining so much.

The best part about that arrangement is you might actually get to discuss tabletop games again instead of how playing a half-elf is a revolutionary act in the current year because of *mouth farting noises* and Orange Hitler.
Or maybe I’m just nostalgic for the era when forums like this were full of effort posts about what real world examples of the lawful good alignment would look like.

That's pretty much The RPG Site in a nutshell, which was basically created to spite RPGnet by an autistic OSR-obsessed libertarian in Uruguay.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of autism and idiocy over there as well, but there's more variety beyond the usual SJW nonsense since the administration is lax to a near-criminal degree and doesn't ban people for spider avatars or not hating Trump enough

Oh, I'm Team Mod on this one. They're still dumb spergs, but getting rid of the people who, on a forum ostensibly about RPGs, can't handle two weeks without REEEEEEEEing about Trump will make the forum better. As will kicking out the people who think that if they can't talk about Trump on, again, a forum about RPGs, for a brief period of time, it's the same as being complicit with the Trump administration.

Dealing with users who basically want to spend all their waking hours yelling about how unhappy they are and how much the world sucks must be soul-deadening even when you agree with them. I've seen a forum try and mitigate how much the userbase REEEEEd about Trump before, while trying to keep catering to the users who felt entitled to make every topic come back to Orange Man Bad - and by doing so, they didn't at all solve the problem, because those same users just wouldn't stop for, at best, a few hours. So the reasonable people end up leaving, and the shrill, uncontrollable screechers take over.

So banning anyone who objects is both a bitch move but also a great way to get rid of people who think they have the right to do and say whatever they want because their moral crusade takes precedence over anyone else's feelings, and objecting to their behaviour is the same as supporting the enemy - the most insufferable, intractable, unreasonable members, in other words. It's a good call.

Pretty much, but then none of the reactions from the speds surprise me. They've all been indoctrinated in the 'silence = complicit' line of bullshit. Add to that a lot of them probably feel entitled to run their yaps on the forum, and it's no wonder they're surprised when the banhammer comes down.

Many years back, a friend of mine explained what he called 'sandbox theory'. His explanation had to do with MUDs but it applies to any online 'space'. In short: the guys who own and run the sandbox make the rules. If you don't like that and can't deal with it, then you need to leave. You can try to politick, to appeal to the administration's better natures, but ultimately THEY have the power, not you.

I'm tempted to register, and suggest that the RPG.net staff expand the 'no U.S. politics' to 'no politics at all' and get back to the real reason for the board: gaming in all its flavors.

The problem is that the board has been an incubator for Trump Derangement Syndrome and SocJus for the last five years, and the mods have been encouraging it. They even brand themselves as the social justice board. The spergs have thoroughly taken over and the reasonable people have left. So the time to try and stop this is long, long past. It's a case of reaping what you sow. The snotty attitude of the mods doesn't help either.

It's a bit too late for that after Resetera learned about their "no grumph" policy and metastasized to there.
Wallace' wall of copypasta made my day, Thanks man!

That's why I'm not fully on the mods' side.

They made that bed, and the bed is on fire, and they were pouring kerosene on it, and now it's burning the house down and they're trying to put a blanket over it.

You forgot the part where they complain about how no one cares that their house is on fire and how it's so much work having to put it out, and that they're the real victims here.

EDIT: It's even funnier when you think about how many of the recently banned were paying members, including "lifetime" members, which I recall was something like $150. Guess the RPGNet mods went to the Lowtax School of Economics.
Stupid question, but what do 150 shekels buy you other than a purple dunce badge and a few farmers getting bruised ribs from laughter? Their news site seems to be stuck in 1998 so that can't be it, can it?!

As far as I can tell... that's about it.
