It was less his policies on China and more that he showed he was willing to invade places that pissed him off, China wasn't going to play antagonism games. Their little man-made islands would never had gone down while Dubya was at the helm, but after a few years of Obama knew they'd be able to get away with it.

See, one of our spy-planes (IIRC it was an AWACS type) got forced down by China, made to land, and the crew taken hostage. Everyone was all talking about "Watch Bush get us into a war with China!" bullshit because China was demanding major concessions to let the plane and the pilots go. Bush was telling them "Give back the plane, the crew, and apologize for forcing us down when we were in international airspace" but the Chinese were thumbing their noses at us and telling us they would keep the spyplane.
Then 9/11 happened.
Suddenly the Chinese were all "Well, good thing we came to their rescue when they had engine trouble, right USA, old buddy old pal? Why, we've been putting your pilots up in 5-star hotels, we'd NEVER put American citizens in jail, USA, old buddy old pal old friend! Why, here's your plane back. We never looked inside of it! We're not sure how this magical flying machine even works, USA, good friend old pal! And your guys? Here they are, safe and sound. Good thing we were there to save them, right? Would you like some rice wit that?"
The sudden change in narrative could have given you whiplash. During the first 8 years of the War on Terror China was really careful to keep shit lowkey, since they looked at Bush as a crazy person controlled by blood drinking plotters and the US military as this force ready to monkey-stomp anyone who got in the way, and since they knew that the US is REALLY good at killing slants, napalming gooks, and nuking nips, they figured low-key was the way to go before there were only a few hundred million screaming chinks.
One thing that the longer memory governments haven't forgotten (unlike Eurotrash faggots) is that America had already used nukes once, and we goddamn were ready too after 9/11 if that's what it took. If we're pushed too hard, we'll Dresden your ass and post that shit on Instagram before yeeting your body into the bushes and raping your mong daughter and lighting her on fire then top all that shit off with a couple of nukes before rewriting history to make your people and nations look like the biggest retards this side of the Native Americans.
And China's got a long enough memory to remember the Korean War.

Once it's no longer useful to hate him, the left will dial it back. If the next president is a democrat, Trump will need 2-3 years for the Dems to play the "Trump left us this awful mess" song. If the next president is another republican, that president will suddenly become the primary target and Trump will be made into the good guy almost overnight.
It's against the left's game plan to let people have long memories.

Let's be honest, people like that were going to wind up all alone anyway, Trump or no Trump. These people were essentially just looking for excuses to destroy their relationships because there's something hateful and petty inside of them... Trump's just a great excuse because so many people online that they call friends (in practice essentially strangers whose social media accounts they follow and occasionally exchange posts with) are raging at him too, and all the verbiage surrounding him lets them feel righteous over it. If it hadn't been Trump they'd have found some other reason to tell their mother never to call them again, or their best friend from school to fuck off, or whatever.
Remember, there's an extremely large crossover between the "cut the evil Trumpets out of your life" segment of the population and the "other people like my friends and family expecting me to give a shit about them is demanding my emotional labor and it's wrong" segment. They're not interested in relationships that aren't all about themselves, the moment you expect them to reciprocate basic human decency they'll start looking for an excuse to cut you out of their life and make it your fault. Trump derangement? Just makes that easier for them.
