Game of Thrones Thread

I've had a week to think about it and honestly, I don't think Season 8 is as bad as people make it out to be. That said, the show was best when both halves of the plot were separated by the narrow sea. Season 7 and 8 lost that dynamic and suffered for it. I think both seasons were rushed and could have used the full season order but it was to the point no ending was going to please everyone. People who wanted a happy ending hated Daeny's not so sudden if you go back and rewatch heel turn and others would have hated it if had a typical Hollywood ending. That's not Game of Thrones. I do feel the ending was very true to the series. Everyone's heard of the saying too big to fail but I think GoT was too big to succeed. The show was crushed under the weight of expectations like Oberyn at the hands of The Mountain. I do think people will look back on it more kindly in time or at least less negatively.

TL;DR: Hodor.

Bullshit. The ending completely lacked any of the character or thematic depth that made the series so iconic, not to mention there are plot holes galore. And what do you mean "too big to succeed"? All they had to do was write a satisfying conclusion and they failed massively.

This sounds like the HBO CEO, Disney, and all of the other shills who, when people criticize the franchises that they've run into the ground, try to say "oh, it's not that the writing is bad, it's just that there are so many fans that we can't please everyone, but we still did our best!", which is code for "Fuck you stupid bitches. We successfully got your money/viewership and there are no refunds. It's too late to complain that we essentially scammed you by offering a optimal product and delivering an inferior one".

I can totally see the ending happening, the problem was the road to get there. The ballista scene is still the stupidest thing I ever saw in the series even worse than the Battle of Winterfell. I could only suspend my disbelief for so much, like the molten crown scene, but not that.

I mostly liked the ending (while acknowledging the show never recovered in quality post-books, even at the end). It wasn't the ending the early seasons deserved, and it will never be considered that, but it wasn't unbelievably terrible and inept like a lot of wailing fans are claiming. Even considering how many loose and forgotten threads were ignored. (I've remembered more of them in the past week... they really rushed the final season.)

The last three seasons were definitely weak and filled with holes, though, and the showrunners ultimately should be blamed for dropping the ball. They fucked up.

The video's been making the rounds. Its brutal to watch.

Nigger who plays Varys is just fucking perfect. I hope he is happy that his disgust has become one of the leading maymes about the final season shitshow

It actually is about an ending that pleases the fans; this isn't free TV, it's subscription/paid cable service. Whether Daenerys dies or lives, Jon becomes King/is burnt to a crisp or fucks off is irrelevant, it's about a reaching a conclusion that is properly and competently arrived at. I've watched corny Korean soap operas that conclude in a satisfying end in accordance with the narrative. Even when the female protagonist dies in the most tear jerking and cringe inducing way it somehow works because while it's corny, it's in line with the story that's been presented. When dog eating gooks have perfected the historical/fantasy/scifi/costume serial drama with one-fourth of the budget D&D had at their disposal, it proves D&D gave not a single fuck how it was going to be received by the people that paid for it-HBO subscribers.

If the GOT fandom had any balls they'd have started a demand for a refund of their subscription service. That's the only thing D&D/HBO understand: money. All the whinging about a do over is useless; it's not going to ever happen.. The IMDB scores for S8 are brutal and will probably get worse (unless they do a RT and remove them). Not only did they ruin the ability to re-watch GOT, it's already ruined the Long Night prequel since all you need is a 90 lb Faceless Girl doing a Jackie Chan to kill the Night King and his kind. The box sets and subs won't sell as anticipated. Cue the chorus of "entitled fans" while HBO complains subs are down. Whatever, I am so done with HBO.

Kit Harington is at a ‘wellness retreat,’ reportedly addressing stress and alcohol use

Kit Harington is at a high-end mental health and wellness facility in Connecticut, which he reportedly entered shortly before the “Game of Thrones” finale was broadcast earlier this month.

“Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues,” his personal representative told The Times on Tuesday.

The news was first reported by Page Six, which said Harington has been at the Privé-Swiss boutique mental health facility and rehab for a month now, working on stress, exhaustion and alcohol use at an estimated cost of more than $120,000 a month.

The facility’s website notes: “Each retreat is offered to only three clients at a time and includes all one-to-one services with ultra-private luxury accommodations. Our clients are successful individuals who have become derailed by severe depression, anxiety, panic, insomnia, trauma, bipolar, PTSD, addiction/chemical dependency and other mental health challenges.”

“He realized, ‘This is it — this is the end,’” a friend of the actor told Page Six, noting that the end of the HBO series hit Harington hard. “t was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, what next?”

The friend said everyone close to Harington wanted him to get some rest after his work on what some have called the greatest TV show in history.

HBO declined to comment when reached Tuesday afternoon.
