Something that these people don't understand is Chinese standards. Pale skin is considered very highly in Chinese culture as a status symbol and a sign of beauty. It's not even a "imperialist Westeners imposing their beauty standards" thing, it's been a thing for literally millenia. It makes sense for Mulan to be pale because a lot of Chinese women try pretty hard not to get tan.

Of course, to them POCs have to look more different from white people or else they don't count and have internalized racism.

Yes. many cultures historically have valued white skin because it typically meant that you were rich and could stay all day inside. It's funny how many of these people seem to ignore the fact that our ideas of "whiteness" and race is a modern concept and varies on the society you live in. Like at one point describing someone as "black" simply meant you have dark hair or a slightly darker skin tone.

I've said it before but in the 16th and 17th centuries European explorers described East Asians as being "white people" because of their pale skin. It was only recent centuries when someone decided that they should be "not white" and "POC". I've also seen some English translations of texts about historical figures from Japan who lived centuries ago. One (which I forgot the exact name) was described as being "white" or it's equivalent terms in English because of their pale skin.

On the topic of Asia, I noticed that when SJWs and tumblrinas draw "Asians" they usually only have a limited range of looks, usually something along these lines with maybe a little skin tone change here and there:

I guess it's because by accepting that Asia is a large, diverse continent with people that can look like virtually anything, they'd have to also accept that someone like Natalie Portman is very much Asian, being that she was born in and holds citizenship to an Asian country and her first/native language belongs to the Asiatic linguistic family tree.

Stating that fact would make many people lose their shit.

I'm not really sure what constitutes changing a characters "race". Like Ariel's "race" would technically be "Mermaid" or whatever.

Like in this article below they made Megara "Ancient Egyptian" but judging by the DNA tests done on mummies and America's definition of being "white" then Ancient Egyptians are "white" by our modern standards (take that Afro-centrists!).

And they made Pocahontas Polynesian (even though both Native Americans and Polynesians originally migrated out of East and Southeast Asia respectively).
