Still, there IS something not VLD-related that fits here so I''ll post about it right now... There has been a gigantic SHITSTORM regarding Netflix and its handling of Neon Genesis Evangelion. It looks like Studio Khara (Hideaki Anno's company) got angry at how FUNI handled the sub/dubs of the Rebuild movies and meddled QUITE a bit on the Netflix release, including toning down the Shinji/Kaworu subtext in some ways (among other stuff).

Sounds to me like the whole thing was a gross series of misunderstandings that bred full on overreaction on the part of Studio Khara. I mean, the movie wasn't that good to anyone and it had a lot more problems with it than a dub that took liberties with the script. Them overreacting to a bunch of weebs and fujoshis fanboying over this movie just comes across as stupid to me, and if that is what led to the shittiness that is NGE's Netflix dub, I can only shake my head at Studio Khara. That being said, the salt coming out of this is HILARIOUS, so this situation isn't a total wash.

1. Funi fucked up the translation of 3.0 either out of incompetence or to "improve" the movie.

2. Studio gets pissed and essentially micromanages the Netflix dub to ensure it doesn't happen again.

3. The subtext between Shinji and Kaworu is less blatant causing Fujoshits and woketards to lose their minds crying gay ERASURE!

4. Meanwhile weebs are pissed because the new dub is terrible.

5. Netflix is currently getting gangraped by both weebs and the woketards they pander to.

6. I need popcorn to enjoy this shitshow with.

afaik, Tumblrites latched on Claude because they saw a sequence in the trailers where he held on M!Byleth's hand in a way that looked kinda different from when he holds on F!Byleth's. That alone rang ALARM BELLS to me because it reminded me a bit too much of the "queer coding" bullshit where you're supposed to know who's LGBT or not from their appearance - aka "stereotypes are good when WE use them!! we're not hypocrites, we wear!"
