Disaster 'Erosion in acceptance' of LGBTQ people among young Americans, survey finds - NBC

Young Americans ages 18-34 are increasingly uncomfortable around LGBTQ people in personal situations, like learning a family member, doctor, or child’s teacher is LGBTQ.

In its annual “Accelerating Acceptance” survey, GLAAD found that people ages 18-34 are increasingly uncomfortable in “personal scenarios” with LGBTQ people — like learning that a family member, doctor or child’s teacher is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Nationwide, the support for “equal rights for the LGBT community” remained stable at 80 percent, GLAAD’s survey found. But the biggest drop in support identified by the LGBTQ rights group was among the youngest Americans.
In 2016, 24 percent of respondents age 18-34 said they would feel uncomfortable with a LGBTQ family member; by 2018 that rose to 36 percent — about one in three. A similar rise was measured among the youngest group of respondents who say they would feel uncomfortable to learn their child was receiving an LGBTQ history lesson at school, from 27 percent to 39 percent.
"With the knowledge that erosion in acceptance was primarily happening among younger males, GLAAD launched a program dedicated to working with the video game industry on LGBTQ inclusion, to bring LGBTQ characters and stories to a world where male audiences were consuming content," said Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, in a press release announcing a selection of survey findings.
This marked shift is reflected in the shrinking of a group of respondents that GLAAD classifies as “allies” — those who say they are “very” or “somewhat” comfortable in all seven interpersonal situations tested. In 2016, 62 percent of young men ages 18-34 reported feeling comfortable in all seven LGBTQ situations; in 2018, that number dropped to 35 percent, although GLAAD did not say which or how many interpersonal situations saw a decline in support.
"The younger generation has traditionally been thought of as a beacon of progressive values," said Ellis said. "We have taken that idea for granted, and this year’s results show that the sharp and quick rise in divisive rhetoric in politics and culture is having a negative influence on younger Americans"
GLAAD’s findings support other recent surveys, including the PRRI survey, that show generalized support for LGBTQ equal rights remains strong. Their March survey found that nearly 70 percent of all Americans, with majorities across all religions, support “broad nondiscrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.”
A recent poll from the Williams Institute at UCLA found about half of voters are less likely to support a candidate because they are over 70. Just 34 percent of respondents said they would be less likely to support a candidate because he or she is gay.
According to a review of Gallup polling about homosexuality, first queried in 1977, support for gay people continues to increase. In 1977, just 13 percent of Americans believed being gay or lesbian is innate; today that number is 49 percent. In 1977, 14 percent of people believed gay and lesbians should be allowed to adopt; today it is 75 percent. In 1977, 56 percent of respondents said gay people should have equal employment rights; today, 93 percent believe that.

>Implying Valentine's day isn't one of the most cynically held holidays along side Christmas and Halloween.
And at the end of the day seeing rainbow shit in June might just end up like seeing Christmas shit in December or hearts and shit in February, doesn't seem worth getting upset about

The key point is JRPG’s don’t just provide strong female characters and nothing but strong female characters. They typically provide a broad swath of character types, both male and female. That’s kind of what the actual audience likes.

Let’s not forget the Gen X’ers also despise the fucking Boomers. People forget this, because the Gen X’ers were and are a quieter and largely less obnoxious group then those that came before or after. They were raised looking at the rampant unhinged liberal idiocy of the miserable fucking Boomers, and said Fuck That Shit! The Gen X kids voted Reagan and went to work on Wall Street. Or whatever provided material reward. The Millenials are the children of the Fucking Boomers. Gen X is mainly the kids of the forgotten generation, the generation that sits between the Boomers and the WW2 “greatest generation”. The Zoomers are mainly the kids of Gen X. The Forgotten, Gen X and Gen Z are much more Conservative than the loud and obnoxious Boomers and Millennials. Mostly because they are the ones that get saddled with the costs and pain of all the Liberal Hippy bullshit that the fools cook up.
Isn't that how RPGs in general work? You can be male or female, weak or strong, whatever.

Christmas and Valentine's Day and Easter and Whatnot all bring tangible benefits. What does rainbow month bring? Sycophantic displays of obeisance? Fear of not being Proud enough? Forcing anyone UnProud to eat your shit or be destroyed? Only the truly brainwashed would get excited about a monthlong celebration that is practically an abusive relationship. What are the benefits for those that do obey and become Proud? Public sexual fetish displays to the most retarded music ever made. Yeah, that's just like Christmas or Valentine's Day.

I really do look forward to the end of this stupid rainbow-stained month. It's amazing how they took something as pure and beautiful as a rainbow and wiped their asses on it to the point where I find the public display of a pride rainbow to be insulting and sometimes disgusting wherever I spy one.

Yes, it's their fault you let seeing a rainbow flag bother you, can't be you overreacting in any way, no sir!

You're comparing holidays to an entire month of "here let's shove our politics in your face". That's exceptional.
Meh, rainbow colored shit or orange colored shit, how they decide to decorate the store has exactly zero effect on anyone's day to day life except the people who have to put the decorations up. The grocery store I usually go to could put up giant fucking swastikas and I'd still probably shop there instead of making the effort of learning where everything is at a new one, I have real problems to care about.

Plus it seems like the line of when "acknowledging the existence of gay people" crosses over into "shoving politics in our faces" differs for everybody.

I think part of the reason that corporates glom on to LGBTQQIAP2+ or whatever it is this week is because it requires no real effort yet gets you massive virtue signal points. Just stick a rainbow in the logo and mouth some platitudes about how you celebrate diversity and carry on gouging the punters as normal. Maybe chuck some cash at having a float in the Pride parade for extra marketing.

They get asspats from the usual suspects. But if I were LGBTQQIAP2+ I would object to this. My sexuality is private and personal to me. It is not a figleaf by which you can wokewash your brand.

Close, but incomplete.

The actual reason is that the LGBTQ-aligned are intolerant and will simply not buy a product if the company is not sufficiently woke. Meanwhile, being sufficiently woke does not lose business from the non-woke except when it comes to niche products (read: comics).

It's simple cost-benefit calculation.

Again, it's inherently political so no, it isn't equivalent to putting up green and red tinsel. Even if it were, it certainly doesn't stop there.

Somehow, I get the feeling you wouldn't still shop there. Also the insinuation that "lol what's the big deal it's not a real problem" is rather funny.

Last I checked nobody got socially ostracized for saying they didn't like Christmas. Also again this isn't just "acknowledging the existence of gay people", and even if it did stay to that, if it's such a non-issue then why do it in the first place? Insecurity?

Is a "support the troops" or "support the cops" sign inherently political as well?

Alright, I'll stop insinuating, I'll outright say it. Seeing rainbow shit everywhere is not a real problem. Other Pride Month related stuff? Sure, but not having to see rainbow shit everywhere.

Need I remind you of a little piece of cinema called "Christmas with the Kranks"?

Why not? Seriously, who's it hurting.

We don't have an entire "support the troops/cops" month that you're not allowed to say anything negative about, do we?

"Why do you have a problem with having a political agenda being shoved in your face for an entire month?"

Need I remind you of a little piece of cinema called "Christmas with the Kranks"?

A work of fiction from 2004, nice.

Why not? Seriously, who's it hurting.

Why not get rid of pride month altogether? Seriously, who would it hurt?

Then explain Valentine's day

On Valentine's Day, women get flowers and candy and the guys buying all that stuff usually get laid, or at the very least, a disinterested handjob from their wife or girlfriend.

>Implying Valentine's day isn't one of the most cynically held holidays along side Christmas and Halloween.

The difference is that even though Valentine's Day, Halloween, and Christmas are all commercialized to Hell and back, there's some semblance of fun and enjoyment among the common folk that drives the commercialization.

Valentine's Day: Roses and chocolate for the ladies, blowjobs for the guys. Already stated this earlier in the post.

Halloween: Trick-Or-Treating for kids, costume parties for adults. Also, horror films and faux macabre kitsch.

Christmas: Gifts and large dinners drive the commercial aspects of this holiday. Also, it's the second biggest holy day in most Christian denominations and even the secular community enjoys vacation days and Christmas presents.

Pride Month has none of that. It's just empty corporate virtue signalling with no payout or rewards for anyone who isn't woke. Even the normie gays, lesbians, and bisexuals find Pride Month to be annoying overkill.

We can get annoyed with pink hearts in February, pumpkins and cobwebs in October, or Christmas decorations in November and December, but it's not as big of a deal because it's been part of our culture longer and anyone can enjoy things like Halloween and Christmas.

Pride Month is very much a new thing and emerged in an age of internet media so it is far more obvious in its blatant commercialization and hasn't been able to ingrain itself into pop culture like other overly commercialized holidays.

Even non-Christians celebrate Christmas in the Western world, even if only for the vacation days and presents.

The only people who conspicuously avoid celebrating Halloween are religious fanatics such as traditional Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses, or the more hardline Evangelical groups.

Pride Month is at face value only meant for the LGBT community, who are typically around 10% of the American population, limiting its appeal.

In practice, the only people who actually put any stock in Pride Month are troons, dangerhair radfem lesbians, and the corporations who make a little extra bank selling their shit to the troons and dangerhairs by slapping a rainbow on their products.

This article is setting the stage for ‘oh we are experiencing a rise in hate crime so we need more legal protection.’

What rights do trans people NOT have that everyone else does? None. They don’t have lesser rights. What they want is immunity from the same responsibilities as everyone else. The ‘rise in hate crime’ is likely driven by ‘crimes’ like misgendering which are now recotded as hate crime in the UK. It’s all setting the stage for new legislation.

I've never had a problem with gays or lesbians, and I mean it. "Live and let live" and all that jazz, then again I don't mind other people's business as long as they don't mind mine. Always been like that for as long as I can remember. But over the last few couple years whatever acceptance and tolerance I had for these people has eroded 99%, and that last 1% was gone when they started indoctrinating kids in the name of "tolerance". It made me rage.

So yeah, you could say that even the normiest of dudes out there are starting to find it troubling, and that's when I slip in a redpill or two when I can. But this is, without a shadow of doubt, degenerate trash and I absolutely fucking despise it.
Believe me, being on the line of millennial and zoomer, I fucking hate millennials already. No need to give me a lesson in that.
I'm what I like to call "1st wave Millenial" since I was born in the early '80s. Anyone else below 30 can get fucked, I'm done with these fucking kids.
