Without watching the video, is the fat guy trying to imply it's a deep movie?

The fifth element is LOVE, goofus! The Care Bears in the Land Without Feelings is roughly as deep as that and it doesn't have an awful operatic Dr. Mario fight montage to gum up the already jerky pacing.

Yes and no. The fat guy loves the film, but he basically acknowledges that its just Captain Planet in space.

AVGN's been pretty good lately, but this is a weak episode.
Pretty weak episode but it was nice that he showed more of the game and how it may have been on the PS1. The PS1 version look pretty good

By chance, has anyone here played Shadow of Apokolips? It’s more or less a sequel to 64 sense both are action adventure games based off STAS. I’ve heard its actually one of the better Superman games

I remember liking it in elementary

Hmm, its interesting to see a wave of praise in this thread. I know he got some backlash (in more places than this thread) after the movie came out and sucked. Also his switch to Let's Play content and stuff rubbed a lot of people, including me, kind of the wrong way.

An underappreciated part of his success, I think anyway, were those videos where he'd publish a short movie review on something, usually discussing its sequels and remakes in the process. Back before RLM showed up and made video essays a thing, its was a very casual source of little film-making tips and terminology. His love of the craft really came through in addition to the fact that it was just enjoyable to hear him gab about a movie without there needing to be a bitch piss cunt ass fart joke every two minutes. I started watching for the edgy swearing humor as a dumb kid, and stayed into adulthood for the movie reviews, and it sucks that he felt the need to deviate from that. At the same time, it does also stem from Youtube's increasingly tight policy on copyrighted movie clips.

I still tune in when he makes a video on a big topic, but his content does feel really different now. The world has certainly moved on, I dunno what to make of it.

@StarkRavingMad same here. throughout the years there has been creator and channels that has gone the way of western roman empire but not James. He is one of the few creators who I would say is still humble.

James content is ok, but hes got one problem with his content.

I dunno. Its okay to be disappointed when a entertainer you liked failed to deliver to your expectations, but if you hold a grudge over it there's something seriously wrong with you.*

*see: all the Nostalgia Critic fans who autistically tried to destroy Channel Awesome because they didn't like the Nostalgia Critic movie.

I don't know much about that given the fact that I always found Nostalgia Critic really annoying and spastic. Like, nothing personal, I just couldn't sit still long enough to tolerate him.

I just recall a huge negative shift towards AVGN a few years back and I evaded it only because I became more casually disillusioned a year or two beforehand, so I was surprised to see things swing back over here.

You'll have to be more specific on which Nostalgia Critic movie. There's Kickassia which was the catalyst for the increased amount of sketch humor and overall autism and To Boldly Flee, which was a 3 and a half hour ego trip dedicated to ending the Nostalgia Critic character. Either one is awful.

I remember that too, but the spectacular thing is that none of it stuck for very long. I can remember when it started with people bitching about the fact he crowdfunded his movie, calling it "e-begging" and claiming he didn't need that much money to make a movie. That stopped after the movie came out, and even though I keep hearing the movie wasn't good, people shut their mouths after that.

There was the Cheetahmen II controversy where he and NES Pat teamed with one of the original programmers to crowdfund a "complete" Cheetahmen II, when neither of them were aware the game was technically somewhat finished just horribly buggy.

Then there was the Ghostbusters 2016 video where people tried to smear him as a misogynist when he stated he didn't want to review the movie.

The big reason none of this stuck to James in the long run is because he never really responded to any of the drama. Something happened, people bitched, James ignored it, and eventually people forgot why they were mad. James has the patience of a saint; he's never snapped at anyone for being angry at him and he basically never acknowledges drama. It even worked in his favor with the Ghostbusters controversy where people whipped themselves up into a fury only for James to ignore them and make them look insane.

It's worth noting that whatever negativity surrounded him had nothing to do with his main AVGN content, except for maybe crowdfunding the movie, so it was also easy for the fans to ignore.

Negative press was mostly fake and gay shit like the James is a cuck thing, the movie being a scam and never happening and Mike being a sped in general . Out of those three only the Mike shit is true and at this point it's been documented over and over to the point Mike is a true and tried lolcow. Also the Irate Gamer and some other irrelevant YTer whose name I can't remember were trying to start shit back around the same time the movie was being produced but can't recall what happened there.

The Archfiend perhaps? He was the one at the forefront of the "this movie is a scam!" bullshit. I do remember the Irate Gamer trying to stir shit too, with a skit mocking the Cheetahmen II scandal, a scene in his Power Rangers video which was supposed to have people cheering him saving the world with the Archfiend literally yelling "Fuck you AVGN!" and best of all, a pity party video trying to paint himself as the victim. He also stated that his "season 4" would be the Irate Gamer movie.

It's funny because absolutely none of it stuck, at least not for very long. It made the Archfiend look like an idiot for not understanding film production, and the IG ended up looking more pathetic. It also helped that, again, James didn't acknowledge any of it which rendered them both impotently screaming into a void.

Right, Archfiend. Is he buddies with IG or is his beef with AVGN some sort of long running gag like Doug's feud with James? Otherwise it all that just seems kind of fucking hilarious.

If I remember correctly, he initially made videos calling out the Irate Gamer on his plagiarism and IG's mother white knighting him in the comments. When James started production on his movie and the Archfiend believed he was stealing money, he turned around and began white knighting IG. I guess he saw Irate Gamer as the lesser of two evils.

I stopped paying attention to Archfiend after James released his movie so I have no idea what he's doing now.

Isn’t he a pedophile who tried to sext a preteen on a stream?
