Then there was the Ghostbusters 2016 video where people tried to smear him as a misogynist when he stated he didn't want to review the movie.
I remember that. Shit was weird. Patton Oswalt and Dane Cook of all people taking shots at him and getting into the New York Times because of it. And my boy James dodges most it of by literally being unaware of it because he doesn't do social media. I think he only openly talked about it once at a con when most of the backlash had already passed. Man, all that shit because he said he wouldn't hate watch a movie.

Never change James, you're like one of the oldest e-celebs I still watch that managed to remain completely clean and drama free.

The Archfiend perhaps? He was the one at the forefront of the "this movie is a scam!" bullshit. I do remember the Irate Gamer trying to stir shit too, with a skit mocking the Cheetahmen II scandal, a scene in his Power Rangers video which was supposed to have people cheering him saving the world with the Archfiend literally yelling "Fuck you AVGN!" and best of all, a pity party video trying to paint himself as the victim. He also stated that his "season 4" would be the Irate Gamer movie.

It's funny because absolutely none of it stuck, at least not for very long. It made the Archfiend look like an idiot for not understanding film production, and the IG ended up looking more pathetic. It also helped that, again, James didn't acknowledge any of it which rendered them both impotently screaming into a void.

Archfiend seemed to just be blindingly enraged at the majority of e-celebs of the time for what appeared to be no reason. AVGN got the worst of it but TGTWG got some videos on them as well. I don't think he ever tried to be on the site and got rejected and just spent the rest of the time bitter about it, he was just constantly infuriated by e-celebs for no real reason. Not an Asaleri kind of "trolling" of them, either, like long, rambling tirades about them and their "fanboys". Fanboys being a term he would use with autistic frequency.

That honestly made me see Patton Oswalt in a new light. Fuck Dane Cook, he's always been an unfunny hack, but I used to genuinely like Patton. Him being such a spergy sjw faggot without even knowing what the fuck he was talking about made me completely lose interest in his work.

Patton Oswalt isn't only an SJW faggot ... But he's an SJW faggot that possibly had some part in his wife's death.

The secret to internet longevity is avoiding faggot social media, who knew.

Also second the point about not watching the main AVGN show anymore and watching instead the classic cinema series's. Informative while still being engaging, mostly from his obvious passion for the subject. Though if he ever goes into a hardware vidya episode, I'll smash watch that, those are always great fun.

I'm proud to say I discovered AVGN a bit sooner than probably most people did, it was September 2006 and the first episode I saw was the newest at the time, Top Gun, I then went back and watched all of the others.

I was already a fan but it was when I saw the Friday The 13th video, the night it premiered, that I knew I was witnessing the birth of something absolutely legendary.

Ive never seen the AVGN Movie, and I'll take everyone's word for it that it sucked.

But, at least James made it and released it. That's more than I can say about a certain Patreon scammer by the name of Noah Anteater.

It's worth watching once if you're curious, it's not unwatchable or anything but yeah, it's not good.

More than anything I hate that it killed his momentum on AVGN episodes which he's never quite been able to fully regain ever since.

It could have worked if it was just say an hour long episode and not too ambitious, but in trying to make a full fledged movie it was just a waste of time and money, you have to appreciate his ambition and that he really went for it, but it just didn't pan out, a crying shame.

Yeah, Patton Oswalt is a huge disappointment, you'd hope he could be a little more level headed than he is.

What do you mean by that?

Isn't that where he did his review of ET?

Yes.

Is it worth watching the movie for it or should I just go for the edited version which just has the ET review?

Not really.

That said the movie itself is more just "really lame" than it us spectacularly awful like I think it has a reputation for being. Everything about it is fairly competently done, it's just really, really unfunny.

Tim Heidecker also decided to out himself as a massive bitch over it too.

The death was an accidental overdose because she was perscibed too many drugs for her cardiovascular Disease . How is he responsible for that ?

The explanation that Oswalt gave was that she overdosed on a combination of meds that they didn't know were lethal. There was something he said about the Xanax that didn't add up, so then the cause of death was partially blamed on an undiagnosed cardiovascular disease. Then he married somebody else pretty soon after.

Was the Nerd movie really critically bad?

I never watched it besides the abridged clips in Nostalgia Critic but it never felt too bad to me.

It sucked but honestly I watched it like 8 times because it was so bad it was good.
I had no problem with the cheesy effects because its just how he does things and iirc one of his biggest inspirations has been Troma Films and we know quality isn't what they go for.

Even if it was bad, knowing it was by James makes it enjoyable because he did what he had passion for since he was a child. And if the angery boi was happy then I'm glad. Most YouTubers would lash if people criticized their stuff but he just let's people have their opinions.

Seeings that he's still successful after all these years and is still that humble funny dude we saw in Simon's Quest is great and I hope that he ends up retiring from his internet career because it was fun for him and now wants to be with his family more and not become a bitter asshole like spoony watching his kingdom burn to the ground.

Here's the difference between James and people like Spoony; James actually has a family and he continues to support them with his work. Spoony just wallows in his own misery while his girlfriend provides for them both.

James is one of the only reviewers I can think of that is married and has kids. Doug Walker's married but he doesn't have kids even though he's nearing 40, and Spoony's just plain fucked. James is probably the most "normal" guy to ever do the whole angry reviewer thing despite being its progenitor.

Honestly, I've always wanted to see it because I'm a fan of his work and I just want to see how it turned out. I know it's probably not that good, but I'm just curious you know?

Eh. I thought it was alright but it's not really an AVGN movie, more like a dumb B-movie that happens to star the AVGN. It's at least fun though which is more than I can say of the TGWTG movies or even most blockbuster movies being put out these days.

It also has a fucking awesome OST.
