I thought it was implied that Cooper was the in-universe partner for the Nerd who was his camera man and sound guy for the AVGN series

I can get that people complain how he came out of nowhere, but being "Token Black" sounds like people complaining about something that isn't there just for the sake of complaining about something that isn't there.

Didn't it come out that it was his wife's idea to add in the black guy because she didn't want the movie to be full of white dudes?

I miss James. Just James. I remember how terrible his videoswith human appendix Mike was, but I had no idea how terrible it could get.

I think a lot of people tuned out when he began to do LPs with Monster Cock Matei. It's testament to his endurance that he was able to turn it around and get people tuning into his AVGN episodes again.

I still like his recent AVGN videos, but I do agree they aren't on par compared with the classics. Some of his new ideas are weird like a continuation of Superman 64, which is fine but needed more work.
And yet still they are still miles better than the other angry internet reviewers from his time (looking at you Doug and former gang). I think there was only so much he could do with the AVGN, so it's no wonder there appears to be a drop in quality, the novelty has worn out. It's fun to watch, but it's aged. Some of his other stuff like the reviews of old films with his friends seems more "up to date", kind of like a RLM feel from it.

One of the Revenge Of The Cis guys claimed that Mike literally has an unrequited gay crush on James, and I can't get that thought out of my head every time I see them on screen together. I think it's true.

I'd be interested in hearing more about this. Got a link to the podcast they talked about it in?

He is clearly just interested in doing the Rental Reviews right now, which garners celebrity guests from time to time.

The AVGN format has run its course, and YouTube Gaming and Twitch has evolved tremendously people don't need a thirty something talk about games so angrily anymore. They make cold hard cash by being funny.

He can't quit until he reviews Raid 2020. He teased (I think it was in the Street Fighter 2010 video) that he would do it in 2020 and it's one of those random games I got as a kid and it sucked absolute dick. One of the worst games I've ever played in my life. Pretty much every other bad or frustrating game I've played as a kid has been covered by either James or other reviewers. But no one has done anything on Raid 2020.

I mean, he's as much as said a few times now that it gets harder to make good episodes with every episode he makes - the backlog of shitty 8-bit and 16-bit games is getting played out. And like he's said before, too, it's not enough for a game to just be bad... lots of games are bad, that doesn't make a good episode in and of itself. It has to be the right sort of bad. So he can't just, like... start reviewing Barbie's Happy Abortion Clinic 3 for the Game Boy, or something.

I think he's branching out to try to survive as a content producer, as much as anything else.

It was the Bible Games 2 episode, and the payoff coming 12 years after the setup would be really cool. (Timestamped)

(I also thought that him shooting this in HD was the most jarring thing back in the day.)
