Could it be possible he's taken a financial hit due to youtubes ad issues? I vaguely remember Jim saying he had "secret" youtube channels and he's talked about how top ten list channels for example are easy money before.
Maybe. I always took that as a joke, but who knows. He certainly didn't monetize his main channel so idk. I think he just saw a supply and demand opportunity and took it.

I mean he's made jokes about merch in the past but I don't think he got the reaction he expected. Instead of treating it like a joke, people legitimately started asking him if he sold/would ever sell hats, etc. He initially told people to make one themselves with a plain black hat and a white paint marker and a star stencil.

But when the requests didn't stop, he probably figured this was an easy way to oblige people and make a little cash at the same time.

Jim made fun of the idea of selling hats as recently as a few months ago. "If you want a cap, buy a baseball cap and draw stars on it with markers."

This sudden reveal of a merchandise store seems based on an imminent, unavoidable lawsuit, but in my call to Montagraph I asked specifically about the lawsuit against Jim and he repeatedly said he had no intention of suing him, that Jim was funny, that Jim wasn't pressing the pedophile accusations that Morphonios had been pressing, so he had no reason to sue him. When this got brought up in the stream, Jim dismissed it as Montagraph lying and him being an unreliable narrator for his own intentions.

SS in the thread are saying that "there's nothing wrong with a man making money", but there is something wrong with lying. He pitched that store as a way to help him foot legal expenses. Maybe it was a joke, but it didn't sound like a joke, and him calling Montagraph a liar at the same time makes it seem less like a joke to me.

Yeah the hat comment raised my eyebrow too. Maybe it's just bullshit but it didn't sound like it.

@Null yeah after listening to your call before the stream it seemed pretty fucking premature. If shit were to hit the fan for him he could call on fans pretty quick and get support. I really don't believe any preemptive 'lock box" is needed.

Two things can simultaneously be true. He can be talking about the situation sarcastically and joking about it, while still taking precautions.
I feel like taking a lunatic like Montagraph at his word is a mistake.

Plus people have been asking Jim for merch forever. Obliging them now would probably be the move. If you're gonna sell out, you'd probably do it now after you've been doxed and when you have some crazy person known for filing frivolous lawsuits threatening you.

Personally I thought it sounded like a joke. But I'm not discounting the fact that he might be worried. I don't know what the guy's thinking. But why would he need to lie about his reasoning to sell merch? That seems kinda dumb.

I don't know, when he said it sounded like a joke to me. If he was being serious then he's a really bad liar because at no point I ever thought the money he'll get from the merchandise is going to cover his legal expenses.
You can argue whether or not it's hypocritical of him to sell out cash in on his e-fame considering the stuff he said on the topic during gamergate but I'm sure it has been already discussed to death in this thread.

The funniest regular troll Jim does is triggering the jealous people...

Protip... He does not give a shit if you think he is sell out.

Did you guys find anything interesting about jim or is this thread just circlejerking for 2 years on end?
We know his name now. That's about it.
eh i guess you're right. i guess it might just make people somewhat skeptical, but those aren't the people being paypiggies for uncle jimbo
I don't see why. But I also don't see why people care how people make money.
I think this is way better than Patreon or other donation platforms. At least with this the people who pay actually get something for their money.

I dunno how much I would trust the word of someone who rants psychotically for 24 minutes about how he's going to take someone else down especially when they're cornered.

Counterpoint: Jim might be selling out which is weak sauce.

Counter-counterpoint: The hat mock up is extremely lazy while the Sweaty Squad shirt is a little more polished. Which makes me think it might not be a serious effort to merchandise.

Pay me I'm sad--here's some hats.

I don't care either way. I am merely pointing out that this is a regular thing.

He drops hints of merchandising and a bunch of people get upset here, as if he or rational person should value any of our idiotic opinion.

He doesn't care. Just like it does not bother me that my opinion has triggered people on this thread. I will survive... Somehow...
