Extra Credits - leftie gaming channel that had two of its members accused of "misconduct" in only 2 months

Normalizing Nazis should really imply that it's somehow portraying Nazis in a good light. But in a multiplayer, it's literally just a skin. There's no story around it. The objective is just to kill the other team before they do. Unless there were a bunch of high profile games with Nazi protagonists happily gassing Jews and sieg heiling at every opportunity, there is literally nothing to talk about.

Can you really think of a single game where you play as a Nazi and the story and gameplay is built around that? Or even better, a positive depiction of Nazis? Yeah, try to find anything like that after pop culture turned them into generic bad guys for decades. Honestly, that would be a far better topic to discuss.

I can think of only one; the video game version of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. Nimdok is a Nazi doctor and a Jew who turned his family and friends over to the Nazis to further his own career.
JoJo : Eyes of Heaven let you play as Rudol von Stroheim

I mean, Marco was an Italian fascist who was friends with Wehrmacht soldiers, so not that much of a stretch

What the fuck did i miss? I was literally busy with work for about 2 days so i didn't check and during that time of all times EC puts out a juicy video.
I... i can't even give a coherent response. I can just summarize the video somewhat.

"Ideas are more powerful than guns. We don't let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas?" - Extra Credits

>This one seems to have struck a nerve with us.
Well, I guess all those bigoted subscribers unsubscribing and disliking the video weren’t exactly a win-win. Who woulda thunk.

Uh, yeah, niggers, that's how YouTube works. You get penalized in your outreach if your users hate your videos like fucking mad. Get wrecked, play the game better, don't alienate a large segment of your audience to virtue signal and then say it's a good thing and then find out it actively fucks your channel and try to walk it back, ya dumb bitch!

They'd hate it and claim it was made by Nazis to normalize Naziism.

For all the talk of "games as art" they espouse, they REALLY don't want games that challenges the player's worldview...

Exactly, they always talk about how should play games that usually involve a woman or a "person of color" (there was a time when they plugged incredibly boring indie "art" games), and then suddenly revert to the same line of thinking where shitposters on certain video game forums try to claim "oh, you play the girl in the game because you secretly want to be a girl", except replacing "girl" with "Nazi". (The whole obsession with Nazis in the last five years is ridiculous, but that's for another topic).

I see they didnt really pick on "the whole video is a slippery slope fallacy and a strawman so can be dismissed out of hand." most likely because James is the writter and he's standard male 'ally' right down to the sexual harrasment so probably doesnt understand logical fallacies.

"I just hear what I hear."

The most offensive part of that video is when they suggest wait times should be artificially extended for the axis (which is a result of them saying it's wrong to [auto]balance axis and allies) if there are more ally players than axis players.

Yeah okay, pro game designer.

Funny how calling your subscribers dumb bigots can do thatView attachment 829076

Frightening how such a shit channel has 2 million people subscribed to it.

I honestly think it's kind of sad how Nazis have been so utterly demonized that even foot soldiers in video games and movies are shown to be insane psychopathic murderers. I'm not exactly cultured, but I can't think of many Nazi soldiers outside of JoJo's Stroheim and extemely minor character Mark that have been displayed as relatable humans in recent history.

I imagine most Nazis were just soldiers fighting for their country or drafted in, I doubt each one of them was a tiny Adolf clone personally blasting Jews with atomic breath. A story that showed soldiers from both sides stuck in a situation and being forced to work together and coming to understand each other would be infinitely more interesting than "ALL ENEMIES EVIL AND SUBHUMAN, NO ONE IS HUMAN EXCEPT GOOD GUYS".

Then again, something like that would also be demonized by those "people" so you'd have to have someone behind it who didn't give a fuck.

There's a similar story in the United States Civil War in accusing each and every Confederate soldier of being in tune and well-versed enough in political happenings to see the war as anything but a potential invasion of their states by an overreaching force that they felt 1.) has nothing to do with them and 2.) is trying to interfere with their incredibly humble living.
It's mostly just dumbasses juggling nuance and Occam's Razor when it's most convenient to their assumed worldviews.

If you’re interested in a less demonized look at the Nazis, Generation War is a good miniseries for it, as two of the main characters are footsoldiers in the Heer, while another is a nurse if my memory serves me correct.

Memoirs tend to be pretty good too. A lot of the panzer aces we know wrote memoirs that are fairly interesting reads (hence why we know about them). Fair warning though, avoid Hans Ulrich Rudel unless you want to read mein kampf + stukas.

So their new comment string is basically saying "lol, we weren't REALLY saying ANYTHING in our video so just pretend this never happened." Also while they are outright saying that playing a nazi doesn't magically change you into one but somehow still make the argument that it can sway you into thinking more seriously about becoming a nazi? I'm really failing to see a huge distinction here. Just because it's not 'instant' doesn't mean they aren't making the same basic statement. Playing a nazi normalizes nazi behavior. Which I must say that I really doubt. Again, roleplaying or even passively playing as a character doesn't mean that you're coming to sympathize or even agree with their point. I believe the desire of a developer is to have a player understand the character rather than always empathize with their position. and none of this means much at all in a casual multiplayer situation. I don't play a ton of war shooters but the ones that I have played are heavily focused on American and other Western troops that are considered 'good' from a historical standpoint. In a multiplayer match there's very little difference between the sides so nazi ideals aren't at all presented in a casual multiplayer match..

tldr Who gives a shit? EC is once again trying to sound much smarter than they actually are.

Extra Credits were the one's that said that the FGC needed to cater to casuals or it would remain unpopular.

Fighting Game eSports is now bigger than ever meanwhile the one game that did cater to casuals, Dragonball Fighterz, lost a lot of traction in eSports due to it's lack of depth.

That was years ago when they were downplaying their psuedo-intellectual attitudes. Of course they'd continue saying dumb shit now that they have friends they want to impress.
