There are some writers whose work embodies and represents their time; Shakespeare, Dickens, Dostoyevsky etc.

Lil' Soniq and xXMidnightEssenceXx are truely the voices of our age.

Holy shit. I remember when this thing came out. I'd go back it every now and then to just sit and marvel at the autistic hellspawn Lil' Soniq was making and now it's officially over.

Godspeed Lil' Soniq you magnificent bastard. Browsing fan fiction won't be the same without you.

I have to admit that Sonic's Ultimate Harem is good to read in that same "So Bad It's Good" sort of way, like the autistic fan fiction version of The Room or Plan 9 From Outer Space

I also unironically admire Lil Soniq's sheer dedication to a fanfic that is probably the longest work that's still on FF.net

It takes a unique rare mix of autism and dedication to keep going at a single project like that for so long, even if it's just a story about Sonic The Hedgehog boinking a bunch of different fictional women from anime, video games, cartoons, and comic books.

Godspeed, Lil Soniq. You've earned your rest.

I get this weird feeling that decades from now, there will be museums and documentaries dedicated to the fan fiction subculture of the 1990's, 2000's, and 2010's and things like Sonichu, My Immortal, and Sonic's Ultimate Harem will be held in the same regard as Henry Darger's works or at the very least (and more likely), looked on nostalgically in the same way that old B-movies and exploitation films are looked at nowadays.

Now all we need is a fan fiction equivalent of Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, or Eli Roth.

We need someone who writes fan fictions intentionally done in a style that is a throwback to cringe classics like this.

Now, with 360 chapters, would he get any better at writing over the course of the entire story?
Flipping through, he seems to get a little better, but is still terrible. He just doesn't have every single line be dialog towards the end, he actually learns to describe the scene later on.
And my land, this dude has watched a lot of TV and played a lot of games. I can't name 360 characters in general, much less ones Sonic would have in his harem.
This should be studied in universities.

Imagine someone writing their thesis on this, lol.

Remember earlier in the thread when I said we need someone writing intentional throwbacks to the many bad fan fictions of the 2000's like how Tarantino makes intentional throwbacks to 1970's exploitation flicks?

Well, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and I just created a FFN account just for this...

Appropriately, my pen name is The Fandom Grindhouse and I specifically chose FFN instead of the now more popular Archive Of Our Own since FFN is perfect for that old-school feel and despite FFN's stricter rules, their moderation is still practically non-existent at this point.

Apparently, you have to wait 24 hours before you can start uploading stories to FFN.

I dunno, this could be fun.

Any ideas on what make a fanfic Grindhouse or not? It sounds like a fun idea.

There's two ways to go about it...

The first way is to write fan fiction inspired by old exploitation films and B-movies/Z-movies, often AU stories set in the typical grindhouse film genres (martial arts, cannibal horror, zombies, outlaw biker stories, splatter-punk, Spaghetti Western, Blaxploitation, fanservice stories, etc.)

The second way is to write deliberate "bad fic" in a sense, but not blatantly obvious bad fic, so you're not going to see the wacky troll fic stuff from guys like ShakespeareHemmingway or works like My Immortal

This second way involves common tropes and genres in fan fiction that are viewed with utter cringe such as AU fics or Self-Inserts and play them so straight that they end up becoming a subtle parody or at least a fun throwback to a simpler time in fandom history when you could just write dumb fan fic and not be dragged into political nonsense

I guess you could call this thing "Fansploitation" or something like that.

What a beautiful masterpiece of autism, a truly literally achievement of the 21st century. I gotta say: in terms of exceptionalism this is the written version of Sonichu. Sonic is completelly detached of his classic personality traits (hell, even his fucking basic traits, like speed and shit) so it's HEAVILY implied that it's only a Lil's Soniq self insert because he wants to fuck fictional characters unironically. However, with all said and done, is actually better written than Sonichu. Cringe and shitty grammar aside, Lil's Soniq actually have some talent to set up the situation of Sonic fucking the imaginary female. Of course, it's terrible and forced but at least he puts some effort in inserting Sonic on the sexual situation. You know? If he took the story a little less seriously and maybe made it about some random loser that sucks with women but suddenly has the chance to fuck with fictional women and gets more confident about how to engage with them over the course of the story with a character arc and shit, it could work. It would be cringe and exceptional as fuck, but with some self-awareness could be a good parody of harem, Gsry Stu and self insert fics. Also, I have to admit the dedication that Lil Soniq had for his story: 6 fucking years and more than 390 chapters and more of a million words is a hell of a job, longer than the fucking Bible. Anyway, It was a hell of a ride and I can confirm than no fanfic (except My Inmortal of course) would get close to the legend status of this beautiful dumpsterfire. Truly a roundabout path. Arigato, Lil Soniq

The Fandom Grindhouse will have both types of fan fiction, of course.

Like a “Last Action Hero” kind of deal, but with coffeeshop AUs and weirdly flirty slice of life. I can dig it.
I almost miss the old days of fan fiction where it was more basic, you could say. Just some persons ideas for new episodes or behind the scenes or cheesy romance. Not a political statement in sight most of the time.
It almost was like those action films, something fun that couldn’t last forever, but we made the best out of it anyways.
The experience of old internet is something I think kids growing up today really missed out on. It was great, it was like the Wild West almost. Anything went.

Exactly!

Some of the fics in The Fandom Grindhouse might be a mix of the two types of "Fansploitation" (like a Vampire AU or a Slasher Film AU where the Final Girl is a classic Mary Sue)

I'm mulling over some ideas for what the first fic should be in The Fandom Grindhouse and I might just make a thread about this project, complete with a poll.

And the mad fucking lad never realized that having the bulk of your story in italics is an awful idea. Semper Fi to a true literary demigod. May God carry him to a land of milk and honey, a place where you don't need to fill half the screen writing out "UH UH UH" to express passionate fornication. Truly, the end of an era.
