To be totally fair to Mr. Zombie Muppet porn, he does sometimes goes against the more popular opinion. He has admitted in the past he doesn't like Batman: The Long Halloween for example, one of the most well-regarded Batman story arcs and the definitive Two-Face story in comic form.

If you make minimum wage at the drivethru at McDonald's, you make more money than Linkara.
 
It's very simple. It means he wasn't playing taxes throughout the year as a content creator, so they accumulated and he had to pay them all out in one lump sum. Also, he had pissed away his window of opportunity to plan ahead since the start of the year. If I recall, he ran that stream only a few days before his taxes were actually due.

How'd it happen? His views are in decline (and have been for years), his Patreon only nets him a few grand, as compared to the ad revenue he used to get. He spent a WHOLE YEAR not paying taxes. He didn't have a 401k to raid, nor did he have a car to sell, or other assets to draw on. No, I suspect he's in a lot worse shape than he's letting on. Between less money, having a wife to pay for, expensive and bullshit healthcare with Obamacare, and Arby's and frozen waffles, I'm sure he's barely keeping his head above water.

The angry reviewer thing was a fad. TGWTG was a thing that caught fire thanks to a fad. Now that Blip is dead and CA is on an island surrounded by burnt bridges now, I'm thinking linky is like a lot of people from that time: in a stable state of stagnation doomed to do their thing on YouTube until the end of time.

Funny thing about burnt bridges. Linky seems to think that it's everyone else who has burnt bridges with him. After the TUG stream about his webcomic days, he made a cryptic tweet about having a time machine and warning his younger self about who he should and should not associate with.

It seems anyone who tells him to shape up and get a real job becomes persona non grata.

I know this horse is beaten into the middle of the Earth, but I'm 10 minutes into his Batgirl retrospective and boy it's bad. He manages to be wrong, straight up lie and manipulate facts all at the same time. Would anyone be interested in me looking through his bullshit and explain how wrong he is? Because it's kinda fascinating how there's a lie in almost every paragraph.

And Linkara, who should have the advantage of being around for years before them, and with superheroes being more mainstream than ever, his audience should be growing in no time. Some of his competition are literally boomers just talking while they are in their cars without any edits or skits whatsoever. And Linkara still falls short.

I remember in some of his recent videos he'll often remark how he doesn't want to review newer stuff since he wants to review whole story arcs that have been completed to get full context. I think the real reason he avoids them is because despite the flak that most newer comics get they'll still have their defenders and are still considered polarizing and controversial. Reminder that Linkara has been doing the same routine for nearly a decade and will continue to play it safe unless you directly pay him to do otherwise. The only reason those other channels grow IMO is that they specially cater and clickbait to an audience that already hates the shoe-horned diversity and ethnic-retooling of established characters. I doubt Linkara's current audience has much overlap with Zach's, and I doubt Linkara is very keen on testing that by reviewing American Chavez #1.

And even then I don't completely fault Lewis for doing the same schtick this whole time. He seems to still enjoy doing reviews and looks content where he is, compared to his peers where plenty of them look like they're gonna commit a murder-suicide at any moment.

That and the fact that it's easier to lie about a distant past and obscure shit. The more I see him, the more I learn, the more it looks like he doesn't know much.

I would argue that "play it safe" is a sure way to become stagnant and boring in the long term, which has happened to pretty much everyone in CA. But I get your point. Even avoiding politics, critiquing all the bad SJW comics is a sure way to get into pointless fights on twitter.

This reminds me, maybe a nitpick, about how I find super annoying the way Linkara overexplains why he won't do something before an episode.

"I won't review anime/current comics because... (insert +5 minute tangent that wastes everyone's time).
