This is a weird one, even in the context of justification. A single person's fast food tab usually runs at least $9. I guess its one of those nuggets of truth he uses to reinforce other lies.
You don't get thrift points for spending less at a McDonalds any more than you get healthy eating points for only eating their salads.
Shows how out of touch he is with life due to his upper middle class upbringing. Its a similar thing with a lot of people who live a rich lifestyle and have to downgrade, they genuinely think they live poor simply because its less money spent from their last way of living. Its the whole "Its one banana, it costs what, 5 dollars?" clip/meme come to life. I don't think DSP lies when he says he lives poor. I think he genuinely believes he's a poor person and this is what poor living is to him, because he can't splurge on fancy restaurants. Spending more than 10 dollars but less than 20 on fast food is in his mind genuinely the cheapest option for fast food and what all people with no money do when they go for fast food. When he says that he's getting the cheapest groceries now, he's not lying, he is, AT Fred Meyer since he refuses to go to Walmart. But I think he genuinely believes he's in the working class band of lifestyle now. Then he goes on about how Kat was making him hamburger sliders and you look on Fred Meyer for the cheapest sliders and they're $7.99 but to HIM that's really cheap! The other ones are $12.99 that's saving 4 whole dollars, can buy another premium burger with that. To someone who's bought the $10 - $20 brand of food all their life, having to downgrade to the $5 - 10 one is like dirt poor for them, they probably can't even fathom buying a $1 - 5 dollar food item. They probably think thats for homeless people.
