Hatred (Game)

Hatred devs addressed the Nazi issue.

"My grand-grand father was killed by Gestapo. Some members of my family were fighting against nazi occupation in the polish underground army called "Armia Krajowa". My forefathers suffered greatly because of totallitarian regimes, so who the fuck would I be if I'd truly support any of nazi activists? People give "likes" on Facebook all the time, even if they don't know what is exactly behind this or that fanpage. I did the same. Suddenly it makes me neo-nazi, great, have fun you stupid ass haters. Learn some history first, because when I read about "polish death camps" it makes me disgusted. You don't know shit about our history and you fall easily to false propaganda. The hateful title I'm working on (where virtual character hates virtual characters), doesn't have any connection to what I truly believe and think, there is a real-life outside, you know? Maybe you should try it? I will never ever again respond to any of those accusations, this is my ultimate statement." - Jarosław Zieliński (CEO)

"Nazi Germany is responsible for killing 6 milion people in Poland. Half of them were Jews, half of them Polish. My family suffered many losses during the World War II. Anybody accusing me for being a follower of said ideology should really think twice before doing so and consider reading some books on the topic. This is basic history knowledge really and also happens to be a very personal matter for me. I am not a neo-Nazi nor a fascist and it is utterly disgusting to be called this way. And I have to say it’s really surprising for me how somebody from the United States especially can have troubles understanding such simple and universal values as patriotism, honoring one own national symbols and caring for the future of his own country. Values like pluralism , democratic opposition and the right to manifest one own views shouldn’t be called ‘the lack of tolerance’. Finally regarding my attitude towards gays let me just say that I have a few gay friends that I deeply respect as people and have no problem with their sexual orientation." - Marcin Kaźmierczak (FX Artist)

"In response to repeated allegations against me, I’d like to state that I’m opposed to all totalitarian ideologies. The t-shirt that I’m wearing on our team picture refers to National Polish Army troops, that in 1945 refused to lay down arms and continue fighting against the new invader, to regain independent Poland. They did so because they’ve rightly anticipated Soviet security service repressions against Polish already demilitarized army. I would also like to emphasize that until the year 1945 those troops were actively fighting against the Third Reich occupation. Those soldiers are Polish national heroes and as such deserve commemoration. Just as much as American troops that lose their lives fighting against terrorism. As to organizations that profiles I follow, they refer to the patriotic and libertarian tradition, and not to the totalitarian ideology." - Jakub Stychno (Gameplay Designer)
These guys all sound pretty badass and intelligent. I'm intrigued.

See, my problem with the game isn't the content, I mean it's really nothing new there are hundreds of other brutal ultra violent games like manhunt and postal out there. My main problem is that it just looks so dumb and honestly a bit cliche. Like it doesn't even seem like a real game to me, it actually looks like a parody game you'd see in a tv sitcom episode about violent games. There's nothing that resembles an interesting story (as far as I can tell at least), it relies way too heavily on violence and brutality, and the main character looks like every stereotypical depiction of a mass shooter ever. And just the way the guy talks, I mean the little monologue he makes at the start of the trailer just sounds like a kid on xbox live threatening someone after they ruined their kill streak and he seriously says "my name is not important" unironically.

That's the problem I have with this game! That guy looks in his early thirties. Most mass shooters I remember are/were actually teenagers or young adults. Rodger, Lanza, Holmes, Cho Heung-Sui or whatever his name was, Eric and Dylan... I can hardly name any older mass shooters. There is Breivik, but he is deeply entrenched in some kind of fucked-up ideology he's made for himself to justify his actions.

This really ruins my immersion :(

If this game is really cheap, like 5 bucks or less, I might buy it for the potential so bad it's good appeal. The game itself looks kinda generic gameplay wise but the tryhard GOFFIK content along with the hilariously stupid character dialogue, and the main antagonist looking like the most stereotypical mass shooter ever makes it have the potential to possibly be The Room of the vidya market.

I actually kind of love it for that, it's so cheesy and "edgy" that it has its own charm.

Postal series has a "good" established rep. New series was born in an age where social justice wants to take over gaming. RIP.
Postal had to go through all this shit in the early 2000s long before Hatred. It was banned in several countries and politicians in the US attempted to ban it from getting sold due to it's subject matter.

It's just that because it's an Unreal engine 1 game from 2003 it more or less gets a pass now.
Its like they wanted to do Postal but missed the dark humor that went with it.
me agreeing with Rio, it seems like what would happen if you took Postal and removed all of the dark humor and any sense of irony it had about itself.
There was no humor in Postal 1. You're thinking of Postal 2 and probably 3?
I have to stress GodJesus's point here. But the devs of Hatred are attempting to reimagine Postal 1 in spirit as well as in gameplay. Postal 2 was lighter and softer than Postal 1.

In Postal 1 the player is never given context for why they're going on a genocidal rampage. There isn't a cutesy "pick up milk" or "piss on dad's grave" objective. You senselessly murder people and it's presented very similarly to the trailer in Hatred. Not only that but Postal 1 was significantly darker than Hatred. In Postal 1 it's implied the journal entries before levels are produced by a skitzophrenic voice in the player's head. You are able to blow up schoolbusses and murder children (something I don't think Hatred even allows), and the last level takes place in a school where you have a nervous breakdown partway through.
What I liked about Postal was that it didn't force you to kill anyone, you could be as violent as you wanted even if that meant non-violent. I think that is what helped its character instead of it just being kill people simulator. I could see this being boring unless it has a sense of humor instead of being gritty.
Postal 2's objectives did not strictly force you to kill anyone, and it was possible to complete without killing anyone sure. But it's mechanics were not built for it. There was very few ways to actually incapacitate enemies and very few of them were convenient. They mostly involved you pissing on enemies or running up to them and using the tazer. And later on in the game you have to go through levels where you basically run past enemies absorbing bullets and constantly consuming crack pipes if you want to get the "Thanks for playing JESUS" ranking. To my knowledge the most efficient way of incapacitating enemies in Postal 2 was to chop off their limbs with the machete, which I don't think is something a pacifist does.

Postal 2 wasn't like Deus Ex or Metal Gear Solid 2/3 where you get non-lethal weapons or legitimately sprawling level design that allows you to avoid enemies entirely. Toward the latter half of the game a lot of the level design is pretty linear, and non-lethal is a really undesirable option. As well, the expansion pack Apocalypse weekend forces you to kill enemies in certain moments.

Also Postal 1 to my knowledge does not allow you to progress through the game without murdering enemies. That was added into Postal 2 inorder to up the satirical nature of the game. Postal 1 was more or less just a "murder simulator" and allowed you to murder children indiscriminately.
This is nothing but a desperate plea for attention in edgy video game format, nothing to see here, move along.
This is the response people should have.

This is not the response that occurred. Instead moral guardians jumped on the censorship bandwagon to try and get the game pulled, and it worked temporarily.

Hatred is a response to political correctness in media, similar to how Postal 1 was in the 90s due to the controversy surrounding Columbine. All these attempts at censorship has done is proven the devs point.

The thing with Hatred, at least from what I've read about the game is it has a fairly unique concept.

Basically at the start of the game everything is very static. You walk around and you aren't attacked by anyone. It gives you time to prepare and the game never forces you to shoot at anyone.

And then you can kill someone, and then the systems of the game trigger. And as soon as you shoot someone, you are never able to go back to the starting point. The police come in and attack and you can use civilians as human shields or break into houses to take cover. It's not like Grand Theft Auto or Postal 2 where you can just get to a cool down zone and the cops will forget about you. It never ends and progressively gets worse until the player is dead. The game is all about punishing the player for indulging in their want to kill in video games.

This is actually an interesting concept for a game and I could imagine it benefiting a great deal to user created content like custom maps. It's why I'm paying attention to the game right now because I hope they implement a level editor so people can create unique scenarios that take advantage of that.

Hatred: The only murder simulator to punish you for fufilling the games objective of giving into your darker desires. Edgy but unique.

I heard the news. Even if Hatred belongs in a sense that makes Linkin Park look like Megadeth by comparison, I say the AO rating is a little too much, but understandable. I mean, yer brutally slaughtering innocents.

Oh well. Expect the SJWs to go ballistic at this news.

Remember that time call of duty had you gun down all those innocent civilians? Yeah this is way worse because... reasons. At least Hatred says it is a murder simulator it doesn't pretend what your doing is justifiable or you are they good guy like it did in COD.

I can expect the SJW's celebrating at the game having AO since it means the game can't get into the hands of gamers. Then again, would that really prevent it from reaching gamers since you have the likes of piracy? Even then, would this really stop it from being distributed?

This got added to Rationalwiki's Gamergate page. An entry on Hatred.
In mid-October 2014, a video game simply titled Hatred was announced to be in development by Poland-based Destructive Creations. It was unabashedly a mass-murder simulator where the developers said they wanted to make a game "devoid of political message".[189] Gamergate ate it up. Shortly thereafter, investigations into the background of the development team revealed that they were full of Polish right-wing white nationalists, Islamophobes, fascists, and Neo-Nazis. Also it was found that they were illegally using logos from the Entertainment Software Rating Board[wp] (ESRB), the organization that decides content ratings for video games in the United States and Canada, and Epic, who owns the Unreal Engine.[wp][190][191] Destructive Creations' CEO responded to these accusations with what is essentially, "lol no".[192] When Hatred made it to the Steam distribution platform's Greenlight, there was a push to have it removed due to its content. Valve, Steam's owners, responded by removing it from the Greenlight platform under the consideration that Valve would not want to publish such a game,[193][194] but there was a subsequent push by Gamergate to have it reinstated, which Valve's Gabe Newell ultimately acquiesced to.[195][196] Gamergate responded by requesting that "SJWs" be included as NPCs for them to kill, with Anita Sarkeesian specifically requested.[197][198][199] On January 16, 2015, Destructive Creations revealed that the ESRB had given Hatred its AO (Adults Only) rating, making it the third game to receive this rating simply for explicit violence.[200]

Getting past the obvious bias. There's not much inaccurate factually about this paragraph other than the second and third line. Specifically: "Shortly thereafter, investigations into the background of the development team revealed that they were full of Polish right-wing white nationalists, Islamophobes, fascists, and Neo-Nazis." "Also it was found that they were illegally using logos from the Entertainment Software Rating Board[wp] (ESRB), the organization that decides content ratings for video games in the United States and Canada, and Epic, who owns the Unreal Engine."

For starters the developers of Hatred aren't Neo Nazis or islamophobic. These allegations have no basis and it's confusing why they are brought up. Considering you can freely murder Caucasians in Hatred (and in the famous trailer the player character does that). The only basis for this is how there are minorities in the game. Which is hardly an original concept considering Postal 2 had this.

On the second bit the use of the word "illegal" is very inappropriate. Specifically the ESRB didn't approve of putting up images while the game was unrated (although this is the first game I've seen they've had a problem with doing that). And Epic specifically just wanted them to remove their logo to avoid people thinking they were involved with the development of the project. The reason it appeared at all was because Hatred runs on Epic's Unreal engine. (And the vast majority of Unreal engine game trailers begin with an Epic games logo to signify this).

Also, on the second to last line. This statement: "Gamergate responded by requesting that "SJWs" be included as NPCs for them to kill, with Anita Sarkeesian specifically requested". I'm surprised I have to point out this was bait. These people were infuriated with SJWs attempting to censor games and posted bait as a response. I also should mention that they want to kill virtual facsimiles of characters and not actual in real life people but SJWs have a problem with understanding that violence in video games doesn't translate to it in the real world.

There's a very clear spin in this paragraph and one I don't support at all. I hope when the game comes out people will stop trying to ban and censor it but unfortunately that might be wishful thinking on my part.

(EDIT: I was alerted why SJWs specifically called the developer's Neo Nazis. This rumor was spread based on fact that some of devs wore shirts in memory of resistance solders who first fought Nazi Germany and later started opposing USRR)
