Hatred (Game)

This got added to Rationalwiki's Gamergate page. An entry on Hatred.

Getting past the obvious bias. There's not much inaccurate factually about this paragraph other than the second and third line. Specifically: "Shortly thereafter, investigations into the background of the development team revealed that they were full of Polish right-wing white nationalists, Islamophobes, fascists, and Neo-Nazis." "Also it was found that they were illegally using logos from the Entertainment Software Rating Board[wp] (ESRB), the organization that decides content ratings for video games in the United States and Canada, and Epic, who owns the Unreal Engine."

For starters the developers of Hatred aren't Neo Nazis or islamophobic. These allegations have no basis and it's confusing why they are brought up. Considering you can freely murder Caucasians in Hatred (and in the famous trailer the player character does that). The only basis for this is how there are minorities in the game. Which is hardly an original concept considering Postal 2 had this.

On the second bit the use of the word "illegal" is very inappropriate. Specifically the ESRB didn't approve of putting up images while the game was unrated (although this is the first game I've seen they've had a problem with doing that). And Epic specifically just wanted them to remove their logo to avoid people thinking they were involved with the development of the project. The reason it appeared at all was because Hatred runs on Epic's Unreal engine. (And the vast majority of Unreal engine game trailers begin with an Epic games logo to signify this).

Also, on the second to last line. This statement: "Gamergate responded by requesting that "SJWs" be included as NPCs for them to kill, with Anita Sarkeesian specifically requested". I'm surprised I have to point out this was bait. These people were infuriated with SJWs attempting to censor games and posted bait as a response. I also should mention that they want to kill virtual facsimiles of characters and not actual in real life people but SJWs have a problem with understanding that violence in video games doesn't translate to it in the real world.

There's a very clear spin in this paragraph and one I don't support at all. I hope when the game comes out people will stop trying to ban and censor it but unfortunately that might be wishful thinking on my part.

(EDIT: I was alerted why SJWs specifically called the developer's Neo Nazis. This rumor was spread based on fact that some of devs wore shirts in memory of resistance solders who first fought Nazi Germany and later started opposing USRR)
Rational Wiki's fallen to the SJWs. A shame, because a lot of the SJW causes seem like prime targets for an encyclopedia of moonbattery.
:ween: someone should make a page on "headmates", Brianna Wu, and "otherkin". :ween:

The biggest problem with its style is that it doesn't go far enough in either direction. It's not based in real life enough to actually be shocking, nor is it cartoonishly edgy enough to look fun. It just kind of hangs inbetween with not-Nathan-Explosion running about a generic environment, giving us no reason to care about either. The devs seem to have thought they could make a statement using the graphic violence alone, and missed a lot of opportunities to really push the envelope.

Suppose we wanted to amp up the shock value. We can try to model it after reality as much as possible, give off the feeling of "This could happen in your neighborhood!" The player character could be a skinny little teenage boy from an affluent suburb, and the "tutorial level" will be him killing his family before he goes out. Imagine the "MY NAME IS NOT IMPORTANT" speech replaced with something like:
Mom... Dad... I'm sorry. But I can't let you see what I'm about to do. This world you brought me into, this "society" I'm supposed to grow up and be a part of, is full of nothing but liars, bullies, crooks, and the sheep that follow them. They all deserve to die. And so do I.

It's better this way. They can't blame you now that you're dead. There is nothing to blame but me, and my hatred.
... I'm really not sure where I'm going with this, but I feel like I ought to make my own game now.

There's a new Hatred trailer

You can see they're playing up the Postal 1 angle quite a lot. Especially with the demonic voice sounding narrator in the background. You can also see there's more weapons like a flamethrower and a natural fire mechanic similar to Far Cry 2. There's a destruction mechanic as you can see a few times where buildings and cars explode. The player can also seemingly commandeer vehicles although I dunno if it's restricted solely to tanks. There's also much more environments showcased like a factory, some kind of sewer and a dock with boats.

What makes you say that?
One would probably guess is that because it's just going to be edgy. Really, it could be like HuniePop in that thanks to those against GamerGate complaining about it, the game will be bought by many simply to spite them (both games basically got complaints by anti-GamerGate *though Hatred can also get it from others due to its nature). That can be taken further by those who will play and (if they don't get much enjoyment) dislike the game (for a legit reason).

Ok the flamethrower and the M2 mounted on the HMMV look really fun.

This game's going to be released, and no one will give a shit within 3 months.

Unless you're fucking Rockstar, riding controversy and praying it translates to sales has almost never worked. But there is an upside to it.

Mockeries of Hatred's trailers are so hilarious as to be considered a form of art. I especially like this one.

Hatred has a Steam page now

http://store.steampowered.com/app/341940/

Fairly certain it's going to get released on Steam now. It seems the AO rating didn't deter it.
Before, Valve okayed a game to have its adult patch linked. If Valve didn't have a problem with that, they could certainly have no problem with letting Hatred be on Steam.

Valve likes money.
How else would Gabe pay off he snackbar? Besides, you could have people buy the game to spite those who think it's a horrid game that will corrupt the youth, just like GTA 3 and Postal 2 a decade ago.
