His high sub count is the main reason why I’m curious to see how well his Kickstarter will work out. It’s hard to say how far most of his YouTube fans will really go to support the game when the time comes because clicking a subscribe button and watching the occasional update video is free after all. Alex could get tens of thousands of dollars while the Youtubers get hyped, he could get his usual $2k that he sees from Patreon if nobody new is willing to step in, or everybody will be collectively disappointed by the KS/demo and he’ll get even less than what is Patreon is making.Despite all that’s happened, most of Alex’s videos still get millions of views. Interest in the game is still moderately high, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kickstarter gets at least an adequate amount of money.
I’m not sure if this is an accurate comparison at all, but Yan Sim is a lot more well-known than other successful Kickstarter games.
One thing that I’m certain about regardless is that his fandom has been increasingly more disconnected and passive now compared to previous years. Interest in YS has been in steady decline, and it may be so low now that not even a demo of Osana can really save the hype (especially if that demo sucks, which we all know it will).
