I have said here and elsewhere on many occasions that people have to stop making excuses and reopen mental institutions. It's not some edgelord comment, it's long overdue. WTF are we supposed to do as a civilization with people like this? Nice as it may sound, the "Start up the Rotors" approach isn't gonna be adopted by most places. At least not until a total civilization collapse is underway.

I was debating making exactly this post when I found this. I personally only came to follow the Vic situation thanks to the people taking the content from nick's streams and reformatting them for circulation to wider and less dedicated audience. My first was a compilation of clips of Nick destroying Holmberg that appeared in my recommended one day; that got me to watch some Hero Hei, followed by the replay of Hero Hei and Nick discussing Rooster Teeth, followed further by the first stream I watched live being the first Beard interview. Previous to the compilation I had just heard of Vic's metooing in passing, a headline here, a comment there. Nothing really substantial. In an afternoon however, I went on a dive of creators that lead me to Nick. An algorithm of smaller YTers got me here, and Nick's dedication and careful work kept me here. So while their stuff is quite chopped down and simplified, clickbatey to please the algorithm, it is a great way to ease people into the whole conflict rather than dropping a 4 hour livestream by a lawyer reading legal documents on their head.

(Seriously think about that, if you told me back in January that I'd be watching, along with well over 10 000 people at 3AM, a lawyer commentate on a deposition recording I would have looked at you funny.)

Worth noting as well that Nick isn't some Pewdiepie with 100m subscribers and millions of views per stream/video, he has less than 100k subscribers, and his streams have so far peaked at 12k live viewers. The highest numbers of views Nick has gotten are during his deposition streams (about 150k views on those) and his initial, six month old 'Vic can sue and this is how' video, which is 250k. While the top three in question mostly have less subs than him (except YF) they get a lot of views. HH peaked at 450k and YF has hit 350k multiple times. More importantly, they have a different audience. And that just counts the top three most well known and active ones. There's also UnrealNetwork and Super Saiyan Paul who get around 50k views.

What I'm getting at is that <100k people isn't enough to make Funimation and Sony care. While you may rightly feel that all the orbiters release inferior information and it would be best just to go watch Nick 99% of the time, that's just never going to be the primary way people support or learn things about the Vic situation, because his audience isn't big enough and his streams are way too long. They serve a purpose, even beyond the whole optics thing of there being more support for Vic than just one angry lawyer shouting on late night streams. Trying to get rid of them would be self destructive.

I'll admit I barely know anything about the case, but did Sandman suffer actual damages? We know Vic has suffered income loss. That's another difference. Vic can point to an actual monetary value.

If I had to take a wild guess, it would be Sabat. He has a lot to gain from putting vic into the ground or out the industry and could have easily promised monica and jamie better roles if they played ball. Motivation? Sabat is the big fish in Texas and Vic coming in would be competition for Sabat.

As further proof to the absolute possibility of damages coming from lost future prospects, look at the twin stories of the two kids from the Stoneman Douglas shootings. Both were outspoken, both ideological in their reaction, both were accepted into Harvard. Yet while the liberal one continues to spout off like an idiot he remains admitted, whereas in contrast, the conservative had it leaked that he used the word nigger in an online chat and had his propects annihilated.

Look at the Iron Law of Institutions, people always care about their power within a system rather than the health of the system itself. They are just talking for cartoons, but Hollywood is just playing pretend in front of a camera, and look how much skeevy shit happens there. As long as theirs power (no matter how limited the scope) and money in a system, people will covet it.
