On android the screenshot button combo is typically power button + vol up or power button + vol down, press the buttons at the same time, hold for a second or two until the screen flashes and you get a sound. It should put a notification indicating you took a screenshot. Rinse, repeat.
To the best of my knowledge on iOS it is power button + home button, again press both at the same time and hold until you get the screen flash + shutter noise.
Depending on the model of phone you have these may end up being huge to be careful posting them un-thumbnailed.
Just make sure to cover over any information you don't want shown with an editing tool first.
tbf if you're just leaking DMs I wouldn't go too nuts on archiving via "download your data", download it sure, but keep it in your pocket unless it is needed. Just make sure that each screenshot has the last message (or a sufficiently large portion of it) from the previous screenshot visible so it is obvious we're not missing anything is typically fine.

Not certain. I've only ever downloaded my data from Facebook. Never had to do it from Twitter, but I knew that you could.
Elon Musk is simultaneously hilarious and successful along with being a complete piece of shit. He's basically Donald Trump of tech. People adore him and fawn at his feet over his amazing and oh so great inventions, despite the "inventions" being a grift. That doesn't mean he hasn't done good stuff for tech, because he has. He has also damaged it considerably with the grift, though. He turns engineers into futurologists who want to change the world forever into a futuristic utopia while ignoring present day issues. It's kind of weird, though, because I've seen him say stuff about having a measured approach to AI, but it's too little too late. The next class of progressive futurologist millennial engineers is here and so many of them lack basic skills because they're stuck thinking too big, and I saw it all stem from Elon's big thinking grifts like the hyperloop. Sorry about the rant, he just pisses me off, even though he's kind of lovable at times.
