I don't get it either. I get he's a "variety streamer" but sports games like that tend to fall outside the standard "gamer" demographic he's trying to parasitize. If I had a favorite streamer, even they couldn't get me to care about Madden. Phil's audience seems to skew more weeb. The weeb-Madden cross section doesn't seem especially large.

Well he might not actually buy them... Madden was donated (for the second year in a row).
I think particularly after MLB, Phil is looking at them as potential low-effort 'chill' streams. I think he will decide that Madden is too high maintenance for this purpose, so it might not make the cut, but this was on the heels of flirting with retiring MLB from the late streams, so I don't think it's a coincidence he is auditioning a different game with a similar sim mode. He can basically do nothing for a two-hour segment and instigate the chat to draw out tips. MLB, for what it cost in money and effort, provided a pretty decent income.

We're making the mistake here of assuming that Phil cares about quality. The only thing he cares about is the lowest possible effort for the most possible money, and from Phil's perspective, sports games may have potential.

You're definitely right though, but Phil won't admit this and repeatedly shits on weebs. I think this is because his long JRPG playthroughs often dwindle in audience and tips, and he notices that the weebs are there consistently, but that they aren't very lucrative. Therefore, they're garbage to him and will be sidelined while be pretends to Chad it up.

Madden will never make it as a 'chill stream.' He has to work so hard dood. First he has to pick a play, then if it's a pass he has to choose a receiver. At any time the AI can screw him over by deciding to cause a fumble or interception, which is not a random chance based on the skill of the opposing team or his play selections but the game directly saying "Fuck you Phil, you deserve to lose even though you did nothing wrong and made all the correct decisions. Your fans paid sixty dollars for this game but I, the omniscient AI which reads your inputs and always picks the play that will beat your play, don't care and don't want you to have fun. Now listen to this music to cause your Youtube videos to get copyright claims because you're too stupid to turn off the stadium volume."

I have a friend that I've been getting into the more niche Japanese Nintendo games like Xenoblade. Today we were talking about how amazing the last half of the year is going to be, we have Fire Emblem, Astral Chain, The Legend of Zelda, Luigis Mansion, Dragon Quest XI, Pokémon, Dameon X Machina, Then Animal Crossing early next year.

I'm a Nintendo fan boy so it's possible all these are awful and I just am blinded, but I was listening to a Phil video and he said this after some pointed out that he hates Nintendo:

"I honestly wish there were more first party Nintendo games... If you take a look at this year's lineup, I mean, what's coming out this year, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics? You know, outside of that what else is there on the Switch that's like a first party, big priority Nintendo title? "

Phil LOVES video games, that list I posted is stupid, no one cares about those, at least not a real gamer that loves Nintendo

At least Phil isn't screwed over by the expansive dry year of game releases, after all he has the Genesis mini that a generous fan pre ordered him! That should be good for a steam or two. And he could keep fucking about in his village in Minecraft, never getting any closer to finishing the game or finding anything new he hasn't done in the past 80 hours of exciting gameplay. Sure can't wait for another few months of "PAY TO NAME THE HOUSE".

I love that he shits on EVO and anyone in his chat that asks about it, and then opens this tweet with "I'll say it", like nobody else has, that DSP's sage EVO champion opinion matters and we were waiting for him to speak... are you in or are you out on this, Phil?

It's so telling that Phil believes when you are good at something or successful, you are ENTITLED to act like an asshole to other people. This is why the successful 11 year legacy is so important - it's what makes it okay for Phil to talk down to everyone and insult people.

Just keep in mind that you still aren't allowed to be an asshole to him if you're more successful than him. Then you're just picking on the little guy.

Wait, so you're saying the root cause for Phil's rotten behavior boils down to the fact that he got 4th place at EVO back in 2005?

We're just a bunch of fools. Of course he's entitled to behave like an asshole on the regular! It all makes sense now.
