Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Can anybody explain to me what the appeal of Woody Allen ever was to begin with?

Maybe I'm just not smart enough, but his movies never appealed to me.

Woody Allen plays a nebbish Jew who gets to fuck beautiful women - thus he becomes a character that the nebbish Jews who run Hollywood can vicariously live through.

He's also from NEW YAWK, and people who want to be seen as culturally sophisticated automatically love everything about NEW YAWK.

And this... is Starhawk...

Which is a New Republic flagship which will serve as the flagship for the Resistance in IX. Flagships like this have appeared in Disney EU shit before but this will be its first appearance in the films. This ship's sole purpose is to serve as another memberberry for a recreation of the space battle of Endor and its supposedly piloted by a Mon Calamari crew much like in ROTJ for max memberberry effect. What makes things worse is that this ship in particular was conceived by none other than... Chuck Wendig... So not only is Chuck's self-insert in the movie, but even his flagship is in it... Why does this fucker keep getting validated despite being fired? And why must they keep referencing his awful books?

How much of Chuck Wendig's idea will actually be left in the end though... considering that someone else designed and drew the ship, and the backstory probably won't even be in the movie. What was his description of it, was it just "shaped liked a front hatchet?" Did Chuck Wendig collaborate with the artist in any way? Did the artist find the description inspiring, or even useful? Come to think of it, how much of Chuck Wendig's vision can truly be called his own in the first place? From the moment he set pen to paper, he was locked into writing about a spaceship that would fit into the Star Wars lore and style, established over 40 years. Not a single sentence of it's description was destined to be original or thought provoking. He couldn't write about a ship that, for example, travels by having it's pilots consume irresponsible amounts of space cocaine until they transform into amphibians with precognition.

Sleeper and Take the Money and Run are actually kind of funny if you're in the right mood. Neither has held up very well, though, and both seem very dated.

I do remember laughing at the cocaine sneeze scene and the Marshall McLuhan cameo in Annie Hall, but thought the rest of it was self-referential neurotic New York Jew navel gazing wank. (And IIRC the cocaine sneeze was not scripted?)

Woody Allen makes small, inexpensive films for a niche audience, and I believe they all turned a profit.

It's actually interesting that he's as well known as he is. I suspect his films' fans are over-represented in the filmmaking community. At any rate, I don't think that liking his films makes you some sort of big-brained elite film critic. I suspect he benefits from people pretending to like his work because they think it makes them sound smarter.

Some of his films work well for me, some don't. There's always going to be a part of me that's amused by a computer in Sleeper using the voice of Douglas Rain.

That ship looks like a cartoon penis. Seriously, just imagine that lower 'wing' segment as the balls and everything fits together.
Kind of...

The ship's design isn't bad, but it's certainly not standing out much, when you consider what franchise it is in. It would be good to fill up the background in a fleet shot, but it's not visually interesting enough to really strike much of an impact.

His reputation has been fluffed up over the years because of his appeal to neurotic (((film critics))) who by and large were all based in New York during his heyday.

Forbes think Episode 9 will underperform at the box office. @GeneralFriendliness
I wouldn't be surprised at this point. Even a dedicated Disney Wars-loving friend of mine is having doubts about this movie even surpassing Rogue One's box office gross. I'm still in the "this film will probably make over 700mil" camp, but I'm ready to be surprised, I mean I initially thought Solo would also break 700mil easily within the first few weeks, but the damn thing never even broke past 400mil despite all the supposed hype and activity for the trailer, but then again, that's probably in part thanks to China refusing to give SW a single coin after TLJ.

It's not a bad design, but it strikes me as looking like someone tried to build a Nebulon B frigate out of legos and stopped halfway through. So one of the best Chuck Wendig creations actually.

I got a feeling the movie is going to bomb hard in China. I also thought the same about Justice League and look how that turned out.

I’m starting to worry a little about The Mandalorian based on the reception of shitty The Lion King remake since the director is involved with it.

IDK. I know many are sick and tired of the brand, but i think people might be underestimating the end of the trilogy bump that third films always seem to gain. I think it'll pass $1b but the biggest issue getting to TLJ numbers is Jumanji 3, if that comes with great word of mouth and has good legs then SW will struggle. I still can't believe that Jumanji 2 almost made a billion box office.

Jon Favreau also made the first Iron Man ... How I long for those days again.

Pretty sure that Favreau has become an absolute hack of a filmmaker. I don't want to call him one ... But along with the Lion King remake, he also made the Jungle Book remake. Like, only a hack would make garbage like that.

Especially making Lion King shot for shot for realism that replaces the charm and heart of the original.

Give up hope for Star Wars to become good under Disney.
Advantage 1) You will be able to enjoy the fires burning down the franchise much more carelessly.
Advantage 2) If hell freezes over and Disney actually somehow, against all odds, makes something that's not a repulsive pile of shit, you can be pleasantly surprised.
