"We are committed to delivering Hiveswap in its entirety–Act 2, followed by Act 3, and then Act 4. After that, we can turn our attention to the possibility of Hauntswitch."

Okay I was going to bitch about this, but technically Hauntswitch was never promised.

Way back when I thought of the idea for this game, sort of in tandem with the plan to fund it through KS, I started thinking a little further beyond the KS and release of the game. Such as, what if it was funded well beyond the goal (it was), and what if upon release, the game was successful and well received? (Maybe it will be! I hope so.) Does it make sense to extend the series beyond one game? My verdict was an emphatic "PERHAPS". So as a result, from the start I conceived of a story that revolved around the idea of there eventually being two games, but without committing to any concrete plans to develop the second. (Yet!! We creep closer to that possibility by developing in-house, and nearing completion of game 1, ep. 1.)

Disappointing, but at this rate just make a game already, I guess.

Honestly HIveSwap feels like a cheap spinoff, it's lack of any sort of connection to the parent series aside from being in the same verse makes it feel weird, pointless and disembodied.
I honestly liked it as a Zelda/Final Fantasy'esque reboot of Homestuck. I read a lot of it early on, as it felt like homework to tread through the shitty dialogue for hundreds of pages before being rewarded with a nice flash animation and thinking "Yknow what? That was actually quite the journey".

Remove the autism and you got a tolerable indie universe; that's what Hiveswap is. And now it's in limbo because of the autistic fanbase and 'developers' drowning in their own ego over working on their teenhood fandom. How are they even talking about Post-Act 4 when 2 isn't even out yet, what, a year or more after Act 1?

It's a damn shame cus it's a good alternative to most fandoms with self-inserts these days. Yes, trolls are horrible, and so are all the new ones revealed in Hiveswap, but at least it's a 'new' take on the tired furry/donut steel concept. Or at least a new kind in a modern time that can be met with new criticism. I've never met too many mainstream normies who ever confronted the idea of OC trolls.

Why must everything promising burn up in drama queen flames?

Can this thread also serve as a directory for dumb people/things in the Homestuck fanbase? I've considered making a thread towards the fanbase as a whole, but it seems really silly considering this thread already exists, and while reviving threads when new content comes out isn't frowned upon here, we rarely get updates on what's going on with official content.

Here's an entire fight that happened because, despite Hussie going on record to say you're free to portray the characters however you want, people still assert their headcanon is the correct one:

(Archives: 1, 2, 3, the conclusion if you care.)
Can't talk about dumb shit in the HS fanbase without bringing up Kate gamblignant8, who decided that running a podcast about Homestuck is a great use of your time, and makes very wonderful and intelligent posts online, such as:

Also fuck you if you criticize Kate, it's misogyny.

Anyways, to at least add something that is relevant towards laughing at people behind official Homestuck projects, someone who's currently working on writing Hiveswap Act 2 published a book, and this is the top review of it at the moment. If the second paragraph does hold any weight about this persons' writing talent (which it likely does considering how it was shilled on Twitter), it'll be amusing to see how awful Hiveswap Act 2 is when it comes out.

While I don't speak for anyone else, feel free to post stuff like that. It could break the monotony of the yearly news about What Pumpkin tripping over themselves to become the least relevant entertainment company in history.

Imagine writing things like "the protagonist doesn't want to fuck the robot, but does anyway" in your book review and taking it and your indignation about it seriously

Person 1: "Opinion"
Person 2: "I don't want to offend you but, are you sure?"
Person 1: "Yes"
Person 2: "I disagree"
Person 1: "You're offending me"
Person 2: "Sorry, I'll leave now"

Truly, a memorable and insightful battle of wits right there.

what a wonderful era of society we are in where literal friendships have been broken like that

I see the Homestuck fandom somehow got a lot worse than I thought was possible since I left. I mean, it’s been six years and the world has gone absolutely bananas in the interim so I’m not sure what I expected, but honestly it’s so much more bonkers now I’m duly impressed.
All the casual fans moved on, leaving only the absolute worst of the worst behind. The only fans left are the ones who failed to grow up.

God. I was fucking BURNED by homestuck.

It started off so well with a slightly more advanced Problem Sleuth continuation with game-y systems and funny jokes and then it just collapsed under a mountain of boring character drama shit. (See also: Adventure Time) Pretty sure the trolls killed it but the intermissions with the midnight crew were some of the best bits so IDK. Maybe it was because they were still focused on the fun video game logic dickery.

I don't feel too bad anymore though because over the intervening years I have gathered enough media knowledge to realize most of the good bits were whoesale ripped from other properties. (A lot of confusing time shit from the first intermission was ripped from Donnie Darko for example)
Still sucks to see a cool art style and cool ideas and cool characters get raped.

(Might still buy some of the Problem Sleuth stuff off of topatoco though but I just missed the last of the original SBaHJ book which blows dick)

Newest update from WhatPumpkin about their new "adventure buddies" at Fellow Traveler.

We're delighted to announce that Fellow Traveller is our newest adventure buddy! Fellow Traveller is an indie publisher that focuses on surprising narrative games. You may remember them as the hosts of LudoNarraCon, the publisher of indie darling games Orwell and Hacknet, or their upcoming games Church in the Darkness and NeoCab.

First things first: What Pumpkin will continue to focus on all aspects of game development such as art, writing, music, and so very much more. Meanwhile, Fellow Traveller will be managing all of the business bits: think marketing, brand management, and production support.

We’ve done this so we can devote more of our time to the development of the game. So what does this mean for you? In short: we’re working hard to bring Act 2 to the world as soon as possible. With our new partner, it also means you'll be hearing from us a lot more: look forward to regular updates, newsletters, social media posts, and more exciting news in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you're all invited to join our official Discord server. We look forward to meeting you all there!

And now, we’ll get back to implementing all these assets…

Aysha, a WhatPumpkin writer, is currently endorsing and watching this survey made by community member, and host of the Perfectly Generic Podcast, Gamblignant8...partly due to the fact that they can't actually pinpoint a demographic for Homestuck after 10 years.

It's funny how the first 4 questions are pretty normal, and then they jump right in with "what is your race?" and it's all downhill from there, from inappropriate questions like your income to a whole page of gender questions. At least they are somewhat upfront about whose opinions they want.

I find it even funnier that the question "have you read homestuck?", which you'd think should be among the first ones, is in the *fourth page* of the survey

It wouldn't surprise me if they just batch deleted all surveys tagged with "right wing OR white AND male AND NOT trans", but maybe I'm just being cynical ( :optimistic: :optimistic: :optimistic: )

I won't lie, it'll be really interesting to see the responses. Though the fanbase is much too far gone to be free of "Yes I need to project onto fictional characters because I'm making some horrible and ill-informed decisions about what I choose to identify as but I just keep doubling-down", how big of a landslide will it be?

Also calling "did Homestuck make you gay" being at like 75% yes.

Also also found it funny that they didn't include Arm Retrieval, a podcast notable for bashing Homestuck as vets and newcomers alike reread the whole comic.

Also also also, the Huss reemerges on Instagram and--

...he's going to be 40 in a couple weeks from now. Coudn't imagine why that's relevant, just, uh...just throwing that out there as a fun fact. Yup.

In fairness, I don't think most people could deal with Munchy's completely unabashed and rampant autism towards the comic - as warranted as his criticisms may be - and even less people in the fanbase, save for Reddit/YouTube, don't think to highly of The Pro Crastinators Podcast because "muh woke/anti-woke shit", "muh conflicting opinions", and "promotion of Kiwi Farms" from their fairly popular PCP Lecture videos.
