I totally get where Watterson was coming from in keeping the IP strictly and solely his so it couldn't become a cash cow, but I'm gonna be honest here in that I've had a small hope spot for a movie since I was a kid. It'd be something akin to Paddington Bear, Country Bears, Harvey, or recently the Christopher Robin movie, or better yet, it'd be in the same style as The Peanuts Movie Blue Sky released a few years ago. In fact, Blue Sky should totally be the studio to make a Calvin and Hobbes movie and no one else should it ever come to pass.
But I fear it at the same time. Bill had a point when he said hearing Calvin speak terrified him, because everyone has their own voice for the characters (Robot Chicken wasn't afraid of that, and honestly, that Calvin was pretty good). That's part of the magic of the comic. But at the same time, there's no telling what the filmmakers would put into the film whether in the background or forefront, or who was going to be using Calvin and/or Hobbes as their personal mouthpiece. The comic strip had enough social commentary to date itself while remaining timeless at the same time, but bringing that to the big screen in today's climate is a bomb waiting to go off.
I'd sooner welcome an adaptation of Bloom County or Baby Blues getting a second chance before Calvin and Hobbes, however.

With the focus on rationalism in Calvin and Hobbes, not to mention Calvin's a little white boy, any adaptation at present would tar it unfairly in woke media now.

So....who would they get to voice Ratigan since Vincent Price is in Horror Movie Icon Heaven? Jeremy irons has shown he can ham it up as a villain and he's British. Willem Dafoe might be able to pull it off and he's done tons of voice acting... What's David Warner doing these days?
I like the setting and premise of the movie enough that I might just watch it. They can't wokeify it too much since most of the characters are animals. I do wonder how they're going to portray the whole rats/ mice dichotomy. In the original movie, rats were portrayed as being inherently savage and low class, whereas the mice were more civilized and upper class. That sounds pretty speciesist, and I really don't think Disney is aware of the can of worms its opening by doing this remake. The climax literally has the villain casting off his civillized exterior and reverting to his savage, brutish natural state after Basil thwarts his plans. They may be able to portray it as merely a class issue, but it does seem that in the world of the film, what genes you have determine what side of the civillized/savage line you're on.

That is a perfect choice and they would have another actor do the motion capture CGI since Tim Curry has been in a wheelchair after suffering a stroke in 2012.

They didn't even have Jeremy Irons reprise his role as Scar in the Lion King. I don't think they really care about getting the right VAs. They'll just go with who ever is popular and woke right now.

According to his IMBD page, he has mainly been doing voice roles since 2012 although he had a cameo role in a TV movie remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
