I personally find the key to a good Nanaimo Bar is richness not sweetness. I had one once where the chocolate was mil.k instead of semi-sweet, the middle was pure icing and the base was loaded with sugar and I couldn't finish it. Obviously it's a sweet dessert but overdoing it ruins the experience. I think I have a recipe somewhere I'll see if I can dig up after work.
