For a long time, health equaled thinness in my brain, because it is what society tells us what health looks like. But health does not equal thinness, so when you make your health goals, make sure that they are not only aesthetic goals.
.
Either way, health is not a prerequisite for respect. But so often when I have conversations about weight loss and the pursuit of weight loss with folks, the first point is always BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR HEALTH? I can care for and look after my health, being the exact size that I am - because thinness does not equal health. And for me, thinness represents my health declining.
.
Healthism and Sizeism go hand in hand, and it is a very complex and nuanced conversation - but I’m here reminding you, that if your goal is the pursuit of health - you do not have to actively seek weight loss to do it - and weight is not the biggest indicator of health.
