Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

why do you think funi is in a panic? Toei has likely expressed sentiment that they want to renegotiate their license deal and i'm willing to bet Funi is imagining the worst case scenario in regards to that... and the worst part? they can't argue. They do and they risk Toei yanking DBZ wholesale which is their cash cow.... and I'd argue is the only reason they have as much money to throw at a lawyer as they do.
In fact, I'm going to bet money that once the TCPA fails we hear Funi go into settlement and throw moronica and jamie under the bus.... to appease papa Toei.

I would caution against building or indulging any fantasies about what Toei May or may not do regarding Funimation. Funi just delivered a box office win with Broly. Toei is not looking to renegotiate anything. There has been no financial hit, so they have no reason care yet.

Welcome to GamerGhazi, one of the many sewer drains Reddit has to offer

It's literally the (Anti-) GamerGate version of PULL on reddit. A bunch of clueless 400 pound cat ladies spewing vapid opinions while schlicking themselves off wildly to the smell of cat piss and their own BO; all while relying on them telling each other that they're all brilliant and pretty and the only people who disagree are alt-right nazi dudebro capitalist fascists.

Doesn't surprise me at all that the idea that a company wouldn't immediately unperson someone because some Cosplay Whore blatantly falsely accused him of sexual assault is confusing them. If KickVic et all think Twitter is real life with all that entails, GamerGhazi thinks Reddit is real life.

You’re overly optimistic about the cat ladies, unless you count deranged troons like Jake Alley.

Even their name is as idiotic and lacking in self-awareness as them.
Its named after the benghazi trials, which, regardles of how complacent or not you feel hilary clinton was in the attack, involved actual violence and multiple deaths. Like really, a tad overdramatic and insensitive to use that term isn't it?
'Gamergate' is obviously based on corruption scandals using -gate like watergate, so it sort of makes sense, albeit cringy. Which why a term like Weeb Wars is much better than animegate.

Corporate overlords rumors aside, even if DBZ is gone, they’ll still have One Piece. They have enough goodwill with that fandom that they’ll manage.

You mean Toei delivered a box office win and Funi had people redub it. Funimation did almost 0 to make Broly a success.

If Toei was to get pissed enough at Funimation for being assclowns and pull the DB license, why would they let those same assclowns potentially fuck with their other big cash cow? I expect Toei may go shopping around dubbing studios once the English run of super is finished in a few months, all depends on what kind of fuckery may be exposed through this lawsuit.

I full expect nothing to come of it outside of a phonecall with Sony asking them to rein in the speds before they poison their franchise.

I always felt the FUNiPiece dub was mediocre as much as 4kids One Piece is almost as bad as Nelvana Cardcaptors/Saban's Escaflowne in terms of being a war crime. I still don't get the dick riding such a unremarkable dub gets purely because the first one was a crime against God and mankind.

Whatever, I'm bleeding out my sub elitism again.

Pretty sure it was Chris Sabat not Sean Schemmel. The only thing I ever hear (well and witness on his twitter sperging) that Sean is an egocentric douchebag manchild.
Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Think I remember reading something about how he used to be down in the dumps struggling to make ends meet before he got the chance to do the voice of Goku so the guy probably has some kind of deep seated fear of being replaced one day and being forced back into obscurity because out of all the roles he's done in anime and video games Goku is the only one that's worth a damn...and I'm sure he knows it. The guy has even gone as far as to try and block other voices of Goku from coming to conventions because he thinks himself as the one and only definitive voice of Goku.

There was also one time when the fans wanted the Ocean Dub Goku VA (guy in the pic above) to do the voice of Goku Black after they got Brian Drummond (the Ocean Dub VA for Vegeta) to reprise his role for Copy Vegeta. Sean obviously didn't like that one bit since he's the only one worthy of voicing Goku in any shape or form apparently.

Because, the people who had to get fansubs from peer to peer torrents, some dude with a VCR, editing software, and a knowledge of Japanese, or some website on the 15th page of Google search results that may or may not fuck up your computer just to see One Piece uncut had their prayers answered. And they feel Funimation’s dub is the only way to get One Piece back to the place they think it needs to be in anime fandom after 4Kids cut the knees from under the anime for years.

And yet they’re all getting dunked on by some old Japanese lady.

Meh. Piracy is still the most effective way to watch anime. But that's me being biased

0 clue as to whether it was posted on the thread yet, but terez made a post about 11 days ago on the r/dbz subreddit regarding super part 2. Once again, it is confirmed funimation has no knowledge of any continuation to the series. Most of you won't care, but I think this might indicate that Toei might have other plans with who holds their English dubbing rights. Of course, It could just as easily turn out to be nothing.

I'm going to regret this but what is going on in those pictures? There seems to be a disconnect between the post and the pictures
Todd is probably still voicing over that particular video, the poster being weirded out that no one seems to be talking about the controversy whatsoever.

Probably because Todd dumped every text correspondence he had with Pridemore probably the day of the allegations and couldn't remove it fast enough for everyone to read it and realize that Pridemore is actually a mentally unstable twit who had mutually black-out drunk sex with Todd.

Vic wasn't as cynical to do the same with the correspondences with his so-called friends.

you're not wrong to think that. Their one piece dub clearly doesn't have as much effort as the DBZ stuff. If Toei drops Funi, other studio's are going to ask why... and do you think Toei will be quiet? Especially if they are as exceptional as they portray themselves and actually manage to offend them? Yeah... it won't be immediate, but I could see the japanese studio that controls the license for dubbing one piece to think twice about giving funi that license.

mind you, it is entirely possible that the contract doesn't allow Toei to just wholesale yank DBZ... but it isn't smart to bring that up after losing a case/settling because that signals your going to be obstinate in negotiations and that will make Toei seriously consider their options... which aren't as limited as Funi thinks.

I wouldn't read too deep into it. When the first Super TV series was airing it took a long time to get an official simulcast stream. It also took much longer than usual for Funimation to announce they had the license for Super and then the announcement for Super airing on Adult Swim.

That last one is my theory as to why it took so long to come to Western broadcast. DBZ is way too big of a property to rot away on Saturday late night television and Toei knows that. They likely were looking to find a better station and time slot. But they had to settle for AS cause Funimation are incompetent and have no good business relationship with any American TV station.

I see the same scenario happening.
