This would also explain things like the time he said he had no money to pay his bills, then blasted someone on twitter who said he was broke, claiming that he never said he was broke. This is also exactly the kind of semantics Phil loves. His account is overdrawn to pay bills. But that's just ONE of his accounts, the other has thousands. It's just not the bill account, so that was still true.
Hypothetically, he could be trying to pay off all of his bills, debts and taxes every month based just off of his Twitch earnings, and funneling his YT income and Patreon income into a retirement savings account. That's why he rails hard on tips, and why he pretends he makes no money on YT until his channel got demonetized. It doesn't matter month-to-month, but that money will matter in the long run.
I'm still not sold on this though, just based on the number of sheer stupid financial decisions he has made that we know of, from paying for the move, to moving very little and buying all new stuff, to paying off credit cards with credit cards, to not wanting to pay for the CT condo and letting payments lapse... I'm not sure he could be stupid enough to make those decisions, yet smart enough to have been secretly hoarding for retirement for years. The lying is entirely plausible, but it is undermined by the documented dumb.
