It may be his most admirable quality—although almost entirely a product of his autism and narcissism—in his ability to have the events of his life turned into a perpetual and elaborate movie-like drama wherein he is the butt of every joke, while STILL somehow managing to have a positive sense of self worth.I think we all want chris and his undeserved ego to be shattered. When we're teenagers we think we're invincible until something happens to teach us the way of reality. Chris never learned that, or refused to learn it. even bob's death didn't teach him that. I don't know if Barb's will either.
It just so happens to be applied by Chris in the most self-destructive and objectively negative ways, which is decidedly bad for him but brilliant for everyone watching. If the pickle man stealing his date, or being blackmailed into shoving a medallion up his own ass, or driving across the country to save a gal-pal that never existed (etc) didn’t shatter his ego, I really don’t think anything will save for the potential homeless saga.
